Budget Waterbutt

Post by Triple_sod »

The other day I was cleaning out the big old plastic barrel that collects water from the greenhouse roof when I thought it’d be handy to have a couple on the patio. So I looked on the B&Q site and they were about 30 quid apices.

Obviously I’d want something a bit more pleasing to the eye than the barrel next to the greenhouse but I reckon the ones made into water butts for B&Q are very similar to those used to ship food ect that can be had at a fraction of the price.

Anyone know any good sources?

Here you go.

I have one of these, it's a good sturdy waterbutt for £16 can't go wrong!

Then there's this

£15.90 including post and VAT.

But not as cheap as the butt above once you factor in the tap.

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw them, think I'll just get two of them from Wilkinsons although if I could find I bet those barrels wouldn’t be bad for food storage, might get a couple when I finally get around to putting some long term stuff in Mylar.

I can see the sense in that - not a bad idea!

I assume your keeping the water butt inside? -cause even though its a water butt - the water is usually used for watering plants etc - so plastic is not food grade and when the water butt gets heated the plastic can release gases
