What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

That is a very nice torch! I might just have to add it to my wishlist and perhaps Secret Santa might see it.itsybitsy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 11:08 am I bought a new 'heavy' torch.![]()

Plus a lot of tealights from IKEA.
I was planning on treating myself to a few (more) prepping things, but unfortunately the cat has decided to develop an expensive ongoing medical condition and between the vets and the insurance company messing up the claim I am quite a lot of money down until if and when they decide to pay out.
Growing old disgracefully!

I got the wheel off, and tyre pulled away from the rim on one side, but I could not do that second side! Best I could do was maybe 3mm for a few inches, then it would snap back! After half an hour of sweating, I gave up.
So I have the bike mechanic and the electrician here tomorrow. Getting the front living room light rose/cord/bayonet fitting replaced at the same time.
I wonder if my new tyres are easier to get off. Or if a different kind is easier? My new ones are wire bead. I will ask him tomorrow.
I just watched a professional video, and he just casually pushed the tyre off the rim in about a second, with zero effort. I was pulling from the other side, but it's the same thing.
Some tyre and rim combinations can be a swine...
But most just need a deft touch getting the tyre to sit deep in the rim gives you more room when pushing the last bit in
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

I believe it could be due to the rims being tubeless ready. The wider diameter bit the tyre sits on against the side of the rim is actually a channel with a shoulder to keep the tyre in place. And the centre bit, where diameter is smaller, is narrower.Yorkshire Andy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 8:01 pmFrnc wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2026 1:32 pm Bathroom light pull cord broke - from inside the rose. I got the other side to the centre. Maybe I should have tried to get that side off before attempting the other side. Maybe pushing (from the other side, of course) is better than pulling. I might find out more when the mech comes. I did read about someone using two blocks of wood, and standing on it. Not sure how easy that would be.

I was expecting £25 minimum callout, or maybe £20 if I was lucky. Charged me £10. Next year I'll get him to do a service.
Regarding the stuck tyre, he just said some are hard to get off when they've been on a long time (which is 6 years, possibly even 7).

Started preparing for winter, boots have been getting oiled, new super maker bought - third and counting and I am away start putting stuff away in the garden - chiminea etc.
I’m also just back my holidays so I need to restart my walking as a week in Greece will have you drinking like Richard Burton on an all inclusive as well as having a BMI of a hippo. Aiming for around 20k steps today to ease my knees back into it.

October is finance month. Need to start my tax return.....
Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 13
Winter preps....where do you start ?, first you have to find time to finish the summer jobs you left....
you say “ i’ll do it next week”.... but you never did.
Well the car is ok (25 years old) just had a service and passed MOT with flying colours
The garden is fairly tidy and fences all repaired and painted, sheds are ok, solar panels washed off
The garage.....I don’t think i’ll say anymore but.......shock horror

Filled the tank of my wee polo there.

Sainsburys £172.9 unleaded
Sainsburys is £2 for diesel.
At least he wore a mask to rob you.
