Hello Everybody!

Post by synonym »

Hi All
I only found your great site just over a week ago. It's really good to find a dedicated uk site as so many are US based.

I'm a bloke in my mid thirtes, live on the suburds of a major city in the North West and i am very new to prepping. But, it fits well with me view of the world and my approach to life. I came to it through my concern for the way the country and the world is currently being run and the serious dangers that seem to be looming on us - global economic collapse, peak oil, shift in balance of world power, risk of war, etc, oh and the forecasted large increase in solar flare activity for next year and the resulting large and potentially very damaging electromagnetic storms!

I have very few preps made and a lot to do. Life is hectic for me at the moment for a number of reasons but i need to start prioritising the making of my preps. I want to become much more self resilient/reliant. Uk-preppers looks like great site with a lot of helpful and friendly people, who know a lot. I am really pleased to have found you. It looks like you'll help make things easier.

In the spirit of trying to give something to the community here is another useful site some of you may already know - http://www.chrismartenson.com/ It is very economically focussed (which given the current situ, i think is quite right), but it also has a nice outline plan of the preps that people should make to be more resilient as well as a lot of other stuff. It's American, but very well reasearched with a sound basis.

Anyway, that's enough from me for now. :D

Hi Synonym :)

Good to see someone from up this way! :) I'm new here too but it seems like a great community so far, so I'm sure you'll find it useful.

Hi Tpot and Lil
thanks for your welcome :)

I don't live far from Manchester town centre. Are there many members from around here? Looks like there is a good spread of people from around the UK but that the North West seems one of the under represented areas. Not entirely surprising that i suppose given how urban much of it is.

Tpot, you are a very new member! Are you new to prepping or just new to the site?

Lil, I get the impression from the little that i've read that you've been awake to this thing for some time. I guess you already have already solved many of the questions and challanges that face a prepper..?

I have just found a way to do things that suits me and doesn't cost much. Is a very individual thing ... some folk throw money at it and buy the best and the greatest gadget - and others are handy at making things. I can't do either so just muddle along in the middle and sometimes feel pleased with my wee self but at other times feel despair !

I'm just new to the site. :) Been prepping for a while and thinking about it even longer. ;)

I'm in the North West, also in a city but not Manchester. I don't really know anyone else around here into prepping - everyone seems to think nothing could ever go wrong here and if it did, the government would help us

I love that, especially since the very same people usually spend the rest of the time moaning how the government ‘can’t do bloody anything right’.

Welcome to the forum. The way ive been building my food store since i started appx 1 yr ago. When shopping i buy a few things extra for my food store each time.I tend to buy things i already eat that way you can eat and replace to keep things fresh.Up to know i have not bought any of the freeze dried foods that seem very popular in the usa.Kind regards dfw.
