I`ve just ordered a carrier bag for it, and won`t wander around with it in town. Period. Will be in the car on the way to the range. Nothing else.Plymtom wrote:Londenercsesce wrote
I did not know that was the case, in which case a crossbow stringer which comes with it as I said would do the trick, if it's a lower powered one I'm not sure what they come with or pre owned ones for that matter, I've no idea what the law says on transporting crossbows, I'd imagine a police firearms unit would turn up PDQ even of you wandered around a town with an unstrung one slung over your shoulder, whether the same would happen with a recurve bow is another storyWhy unstring it? As far as I know without the string attached it is not considered as a weapon in the eyes of the law and I won`t get into trouble carrying it in my car if police stops me (on the way to the range).
Please correct me if I`m wrong...

That's cool
firearms range? the full members at the one we go to do archery on it, I can see us taking the crossbow and the compound bow there to use eventually.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Update: That archery range just cancelled me, don`t know why...So, I can`t practice anywhere...Does anyone know a place around Sheffield to shoot a crossbow in a legal and safe way, please?Plymtom wrote:That's coolfirearms range? the full members at the one we go to do archery on it, I can see us taking the crossbow and the compound bow there to use eventually.

I'd do a bit of reseach, it's possible you'd have a better chance of using it at a full bore gun club, I don't know why but archery gets a bit snooty IMO Longbows and other recurve bows seem to comand the most respect, whereas compound bows are frowned on a bit, and crossbows sent to Coventry, we bought a proper thick foam target holder thingie which will stop the 185lb crossbow bolt and the 60lb compound bow too, but until we read that the gun club's members use the range for archery and airgunning too we thought we may never get to use them safely or without paying OTT subscription fees?
Considering how popular Crossbows and airguns for that matter are, there seems to be a distinct lack of clubs to go and use them at, perhaps you should start one, do you know anyone witha field?

I have a weihraugh hw80 that I find Knocks down small game quickly and quite quietly , I also have a fishing rod and I have a couple of old gin traps that I would not hesitate to use in a shtf scenario.
If I am hunting on permission land , I eat rabbits and wood pigeons and share any extra , also vermin control to keep the permission happy.

Re: Guns,air rifles and weapons
So, trying to find a place to legaly shoot a crossbow is a disappointment in the UK. In archery clubs You are not welcome or the rules forbid it. Where else? Good question.
Contacted 15 clubs, 1 said ok in indoor range, however I`m not alow to use a cocking device (this is stupid, got a bad back, this is the reason why I choose a crossbow) that is a NFAS competition rule, I would like to practice not to gain any unfair advantage in a competition. + should attend a 6 weeks training course shooting a bow BEFORE I`m alow to do it. What for? Why don`t they train me on a crossbow? Like I got training to ride a bike so I can drive a car...Arrggh!
