As I said before, mine cried like babies til they toughened up. I put in some nice thick insoles and wear an extra pair of thick socks, which seems to have done the trick. I had some impressive blisters before I broke em in though!
feet are hard as anything can run down the road and round park bear foot no problem I wouldn't because god knows whats on the floor.
But I have foot problems. It runs in the family my mum is the same I have insoles which I put in but they don't do any good with army surplus boots.
I would never buy second hand boots because they have already moulded to someone elses feet
I used to have Magnum boots, both the fabric and all leather ones and they were rubbish, seams splitting in no time, and very little support for any decent walking trips, good for running in though
My last pair of boots were Hanwag, not cheap but very good.
A good way to break in a pair of new boots is to submerge them in a bath of scalding hot water for 30 minutes and then wear for long walk with good boot socks on, half way change to fresh socks, hopefully by the end of the walk the boots will be dry and moulded to your feet.
I wear the old pattern British army boot (the BCH, the one they brought in after the Falklands) rather then the newer assault boot.
I wear them every day, in fact I only own one other pair of outdoor shoes (and I can't remember when I wore them last).
Mind you, I walk between 9 and 15 miles a day (according to the pedometer) and it takes me two to three years to kill a pair...... Footwear for less then £7 a year

Most of the discussion seems to be about British Army combat boots and I would agree that they are probably the best for a few reasons:
1. Value - For what they cost they do a really good job and can last a long time.
2. Robustness - They were designed for frontline soldiers so can take one hell of a beating.
3. Lifetime - If you look after them, and by that I mean keep clean and polished, one pair can easily see you through a couple of years of day to day use.
4. Comfort - Some of you will disagree but in my opinion if worn with a good thick pair of socks they are rather comfy, the only exception being breaking them in which only took 1-2 weeks.
I've had mine for 3 years and spend most of my time wearing them with few problems. However I would avoid second hand pairs if possible as they have already moulded to someone's feet.
