This week I am continuing to build new ( security - type) fencing on our rather large property. As I get older, which seems to be quicker ,this will be a one- off job! An on- going project. Got to build a new log storage job for outside the back door. So it looks ‘smart’  The rest of our prepared/ ready firewood stands on raised planks with planks on top. And there’s a bit! :D If it was up to me,it would be the same set up outside the back door - quick and practical.

Anyhow, the two pantries are up to speed and in good order. Everything is dated ,and no unused rammel. I know a lot of folks here are ok with out of date cans etc. but 40+ years in the meat industry leaves this butcher careful for a reason. ;)

Plenty of stored squashes for the pantry, along with spuds, kale and root veg in the garden. The animals are ticking over too. I’ve done well financially this year with my rabbits, which is good. The fowls are reducing egg laying as Winter moves in ,but there’s only me that eats them ,so that’ll be sufficient.

We have battery powered lighting all over ,ready for potential power cuts, but also to cut costs. It’s not a lot, granted, but the habits of lowered electricity use are good for what ( I think) is going to be a real issue as time moves along.

On the whole,we are now quite steady ,and aside from health issues my wife has, what’s happening in the world will go on and we’ll manage. ;)
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Different new solar lights up today. The below model has proved reliable over the past year, so I've put a couple more up.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B08HJTTM5C

Special offers at the wholesalers got us a huge amount of meat, which is now prepared and in the freezer. The turkey crowns that we're a good price a few weeks ago were out of stock. Unsurprising, really. I'm reminded of an old boy I used to work with years ago. We had a customer once who complained that our prices were too high. "They're cheaper at [competition]". Old boy asks why the customer isn't buying them from there, customer replies that they're out of stock. "Oh, well, ours are really cheap when they're out of stock, too". :D

All of the pallets and tyres are moved to the back, hopefully the sunny weather will last so I can get the beds started. The garden was productive last year, this year not so much. Mainly due to health problems and other work going on. Next year will be back to it.

Just to clarify from my previous post, I made a mistake. I searched amazon for mountain house and got ReadyWise stuff and just bought that (half asleep and thinking I had mountain house) and want to save up for more of their offerings. It was their freeze dried veg. So if I have good rice stocks, then I can still eat well.

On another note, I have had a rather frightening experience with my brass trangea. Tried it with Bioethanol instead of methylated spiritus. The flame size was scary for indoor use. I think that meths is a better fuel for the trangea unless you got really really big pots on the brass trangea stand, but then the stand might not be good enough for something like my pressure cooker or canner and even some of my bigger saucepans.

Just ordered cartridge gas cylinders for indoor cooking. So I can use my paraffin stuff and ethanol stuff outside (such as for boiling water for washing and washing up and the occasional bit of cooking if the weather isn't too stupid. And the gas inside.
And then just use the oil lamps and paraffin heater indoors.

Day off work so I'm polishing the car in the fog ... Neighbors probably think I'm mad

But it gives me chance to have a good look over the car ..

Put the ball and pin towball back on (makes being towed out by strap easier if I get stuck :| )

Battery is currently on a 8 step smart charger to just give it a top up and blow any sulphate off the plates and stop it discharging whilst I've all the doors open and the radio on

Gear linkages and wiper mechanism have all been greased up ..

Any accessible electrical plugs in the engine bay have been sprayed with a decent oil/ dewetting fluid

Door locks graphite oiled

Door rubbers wiped over with a silicone based dressing to stop them sticking in the ice / frost

Windows cleaned inside and out and treated with rain X to aid visibility in the wet

And I've even had the vac out (I hate cleaning car interiors)

Once the battery is charged I'll test it with my digital tester
