Same here ... for all the fruits I pick ... and already, when I pick blackberries, there are some that have got mould on them, or rotted, and some fall off when I pick the one next door because they're well over-ripe. Its all just early early early!Stasher wrote:Wot?PreppingPingu wrote: Last year I was very good and didn't take very much to leave for others and the wildlife ( - good foraging etiquette,) but I noticed lots of blackberries were left to rot on the bushes, so this year I will take more as it is silly for food to go to waste. I will go out armed with my book next time and see what else I can find to eat out there.
I've just done a recce this afternoon and the local ones are at least a week off picking. But I agree this year looks to be a bumper year. Last year we only had enough to make some tarts. This year I'm going for tarts/jam/freezing.

I read somewhere that elderberries compliment blackberries in a jam. Must give it a go sometime.dizzydays wrote:I wasnt a huge fan of blackberry jam when I last made it (years ago). Do you add anything to it, like apple? I'm wondering if I'd like that more. I really need to do something with all this fruit that rots on the bushes.
SHTF around 2017.

Been collecting apples, blackberries, hawthorn berries, elderberries, rosehips and yellow plums. Tomorrow, more berries and more jam making, pie, crumble. Found a hedge of sloes and more apples and plum trees!! Just as we'll sugar is cheap now! I'm also making ginger beer. My daughter and I made amazing blackberry muffins yesterday. Just need to dig out my old recipe for home-made crumpets... Umf...Umf...munch..

Hey folks,
how's about a recipe section, there's got to be many variations of more or less the same thing, and I think a lot of age old recipes have been lost or forgotten. Maybe we could revive a few? I personally think it's pertinent to our way of life. What do you guys think?
All the best,
Daz

Good idea. There are a good amount of recipes from the WWII rationing era that are very useful for peppers.m0tty wrote:Hey folks,
