Food Dehydrating

Post by thetiggys »

Just bagged myself a dehydrator from flea-bay, only £20! :D

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do first? I'm very excited and don't know where to start!

By some cheap fruit and get going. I'm guessing that your first few batches will be experimental so you can get to know your new machine. Don't try anything too expensive to start with.

Mmmmmm apple and cinnamon!

Right I'll get on a fruit mission.

When you say pineapple chunks do you mean tinned? In fruit juice or syrup or does it not matter?

Shouldn't have started this at night......it's making me hungry!

You can go down either route, you will need to wash it first anyway, fresh pinapple is good as well.

Onions, are easy as well, then the fruit leathers, Flavoured jerky either beef, chicken or venison (no horse though ;) )

What I'm planning on doing (when I don't get beaten to the Evilbay sale) is see what fruit or veg my local supermarket has yellow-labeled.... That way I'm not losing anything really

Also look out for books on the subject (Amazon, Evilbay etc)

Fruit leathers are for soft fruit aren't they ?

Thanks for that link

When I said

I was asking if they are the best/easiest way to do soft fruit not if you could only use soft fruit..... Apple fruit leather sounds good *insert Homer Simpson impression here*
