Shooting anything the way that I understand it is a skill that goes down hill if you don't practice it much. I guess catapult shooting is pretty much the same. I am lucky in that I work from home and my schedule often leaves me with moments between tasks and I use that to practice my small hand held as well as wrist brace slingshot regularly. I use the cheapest bands I can lay my hands on (a 1 LB bag of stationery elastic bands purchased off ebay for less then a fiver inc P+P) for practice which aren't perfect, but at least I am practicing the skill and improving my aim, learning new techniques and generally getting more self knowledgeable through being self critical.
Are you a regular slingshot practicer and what other skills do you practice regularly?
How often do you practice shooting and other skills?

Re: How often do you practice shooting and other skills?
We like all kinds of shooting, so a little weekly, particularly catapulting of late (with our new gamekeeper ones) I was useless with my barnet black widow, and whilst I was improving, the gamekeeper style seems to work better for me.

Bread making is something else I both like and feel needs regular practice at least until you get consistant, also experimenting with the bushcraft type breads is something I experiment with.

Yes I would agree, but I think like the old riding a bike saying, it comes back fairly quickly, perhaps not to your best but to an acceptable average, having said that I haven't shot at a moving target as such, I plan to do some clay shooting before too long, but have to be honest and say shooting related is more fun orientated than prepping.Shooting anything the way that I understand it is a skill that goes down hill if you don't practice it much.

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Re: How often do you practice shooting and other skills?
I go shooting twice a week, rifles and shotguns. I have to go out to the US five to six times a year so I tend to go pistol shooting everyday for normally a week or two at a time. Plus I do some rifle shooting out there too. Camp skills maybe twice a month year round. Fishing and trapping year round.

Re: How often do you practice shooting and other skills?
Shooting is something I love to do, I'm planing on going mobile in a shtf crisis I keep my car sorted at all times I shoot every chance I get and I always keep a rifle and pistol in my car I also practice shooting on the move from the car (60 acres of private land) as my house is so small I can't store large amounts of food or water, thus making my skills behind the trigger much more of a necessity as it will provide food for me the Mrs and the dog...

Re: How often do you practice shooting and other skills?
I practise every week. I would suggest you practice in different ways not just shooting at a static target. Try walking and shooting. Run for a couple of minutes and then try shooting. Have a go at shooting by torch light. Give yourself only 3 seconds to take the shot. All of the above have practical situational benefits.
Anyone can pick up a gun and shoot at astatic target. Try to hone your skills under different conditions.

I'm thinking its time for an air rifle, but there have been alot of changes since i last did it.
Is there a definative rifle for the prepper, or am i asking for a fight?
I'm thinking not gas as you may eventually run out?

If you use the phase "man up" you have alot to learn.

Re: How often do you practice shooting and other skills?
I would recommend the Weihrauch HW77 or 97K. This is a spring gun. Match this with a Hawke Scope and you can’t go wrong. I have owned the HW77 model for 20 years. It’s a heavy gun but the quality of build is second to none. You will take rabbits at 25m with no problems.munchh wrote:I'm thinking its time for an air rifle, but there have been alot of changes since i last did it.

Don’t exclude gas as you can use a stirrup pump, as I do. Once again I would recommend the HW100. I treated myself to one a couple of years ago and it’s the best air rifle I have ever owned. Many shooters will have their own favourites these are mine.
