1 month boxes

Post by seamus1979 »

so a work in progress i have going at the moment is storage boxes in my garage.
the idea behind them is each one has enough stores for a month for me and the family.
my reasoning being is two fold.
firstly its a handy way for me to work out exactly how many months worth of food i have and secondly worst case scenario i could throw a few boxes in the car and know im ok. rather than picking up an indiscriminate box and finding out its just a box of corned beef or spam with nothing else.
i have six complete boxes taped up and am slowly filling up another three at the moment
so a break down of a sample box.

pasta
white rice
porridge
quantities are different for each box. so one might have 10 kg of rice, 4kg of pasta and 2kg of porridge. each box has roughly the same weight in carbs but it may be 6kg of pasta and 8kg of rice etc.
months supply of vitamins for me, the missus and my son.
powdered milk
water purification tablets.
baby wipes
bleach
3 or 4 tubs of peanut butter.
30-40 tins of meat. sardines, tuna and tinned steak being a major choice.
bag of whey protein powder
alcohol gel
candles
pack of lighters from the pound shop
small bottle of vodka
tin opener
scissors
nail clippers and tweezers
work gloves
various assortment of sauces, soups, oxo cubes and things to make things taste nice
soy sauce
cooking oil
sugar
salt
dental floss
honey
duct tape
electrical tape
cable ties

one each box i have wrote the dates for everything inside the box
it weighs abit but its manageable.
so what have i missed?
does anyone else have a similar policy?

I have the same sort of thing in my spare room. I have boxes containing a weeks supply of food and various other supplies in each one. I have water and various methods of obtaining clean water and cooking equipment. I thought it would make thing simpler if I had to bug out - just grab as many boxes as I could fit in the car. I still keep a bob as well.
Too many bunnies, not enough pandas.

What sort of size and weight are your boxes? I like your Idea, might pinch it and make a week version , mark 1 -52 then rota accordingly!
We live in a unsustainable world, there must be a balance, poor people/rich people no more, only prepared people will make it!

Great idea. You may want to vary the food items a bit though and have a few different items in each box?

the only thing i do have is hot chocolate sachets and things like packs of chewing gum etc.
each box is not exactly the same
its kind of whatever takes my fancy while shopping but all try to follow the same rough blue print
i also have a pretty big larder in my house so im constantly topping that up as well
i keep 3 plastic 20 litre jerry cans designated for water and three metal jeror bugging in i can ry cans for fuel
for a sucrose hits the fan i have two options
for a quick bug out i have enough space in my car to chuck in three boxes with my seperate bug out bags
for a bug in situation i will just carry them from the garage indoors
they weigh about 35-40kg each so its pretty managable
dont get me wrong i wont be carrying them any great distance or bugging out on foor carrying them
