Hello all,
I am new to Internet forums but I am not new to prepping, ( although when I started I would have called it survivalism). My dad lived by the mantra of always having a plan B or C and I am sure he had a plan D that he kept to himself and I have carried on with his thinking.
I am ex military and this has coloured my prepping, I believe that one of the main considerations when things go wrong along with food and water will be security, to this end my wife and I moved from a large town to the middle of nowhere in Suffolk last year, my hope was that it would be easier to protect my home with less people to worry about, there is also an abundance of food and water here. We then had a baby and that has totally changed the way I think about how I would deal with things if the balloon went up. I am still in the planning stages but things are under way.
Hi , not to put the dampers on your idilic life style out in the sticks but are you more than 20 miles from Mildenhall or Lakenheath ? As in the event of a Nuclear strike , 20 miles would be a bit close for comfort for me ?Although this wont happen , Maybe you should include this in your plan E .And cater for a safe room away from outside walls and the sealing of windows and doors , along with the use of wet towels draped over the toilet bowl and sink / bath drains as there is nothing more disgusting imaginable than the POP ( Peek Over Pressure that blows all the sewage back up the pipes and into your house ....) This is something that every one forgets about , hence the plan E prefix .This seems to be a problem with a lot of members , They dont realise there strategic location to targets .And another is there position in relation to both National and foreign targets with concerns regarding wind direction , which is important not only in a Nuclear strike but also Chemical and Biolocical .As your ex mil , then map reading should be second nature - Scope around a map and work out your survival ratio with regards to Military and Civilian targets taking into account the mean wind direction . I was down at Mildenhall 4 months ago , Beautiful countryside and amazing views , We stopped and photograped Ely cathedral from around 3 miles away over the fields .But then reality hit as we got near Mildenhall as there was a seahawk flying around , then a B1b came in rather rapidly with a problem , These can crash anywhere with the same effect as an all out strike .
There are some scenarios that we just cannot imagine , and indeed dont warrent thinking about , else we would all be upto plan Z before we knew it .Suffolk is a dangerous place , it's a bit like a drugs , easy to get hooked on then BANG .
