I got one somewhere tbh they are rubbish, if tshtf then maybe i would dig it out again but only if i ran out of other stuff to burn.

I made about 30 bricks before deciding it was far too much effort

Did some reading on this. Generally found that the ones you can buy for 20 quid or so were pretty duff. Some of the best ones I saw were home made from a piece of 4"VC pipe with a 20mm pipe secured in the centre. Both had holes in to allow water to seep out.

Basically, people soaked paper and other stuff for a while then packed the mix into the pipe to a level and then pressed it down. They had one on the latest Doomsday prepper which was very similar to designs I had seen on YouTube. They used a car jack to apply pressure to punch the water out. Push out the compacted block and leave to dry. Got a good 20-30 mins of burn per brick if I recall correctly.

For what you get (burning time etc) they are not worth the effort. I have made some and you need some really good drying days as they take a long time to dry out and the way our weather is.....

So I would suggest finding a reasonable wood source and not bother with a paper log maker.

I was going to look into making paper bricks as I shread all my confidential papers at once and I thought I could use them as fuel. Will think twice now!

I'm posting to this old thread, I have no chimney that is open so first I would need to sort that, what brings me to the subject is rubbish  Our council have in the pipeline decided to go with fortnightly collection, given that we already fill a big brown wheelie bin weekly and a green recycling one fortnightly, I am pondering ways of parting with enough of our rubbish to cut it down by half, these log things may do some of it, the waste disposal unit may take care of a fair bit of stuff which we bin but burning some stuff may do us a favour bills wise. I can see from here that it's a fair bit of faff but it could also give me excuse to get a multi fuel stove bunged in.

I'm also considering how things will pan out if a bottle deposit scheme is introduced, for it would alter our recycling quantity considerably.

Just combining making bin space with some free energy is my thought, but also saving a bit of cash ( not that multi fuel stoves come cheap).
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

We did paper mulched and mashed with some bleach (to aid breakdown, info from youtube  ), coal dust and sawdust. Used the holey pipe and jack method, dried the logs round the woodburner and used as fuel the next day. A fair bit of work when pallets are often free if you ask. But it did work, most of the time. The devices that look like the old potato/chip maker was rubbish and bent with any pressure. As a comparison you can get sawdust to fuse into solid pieces, with ,IIRC, 30 tons of pressure and associated heat !

We didnt use a jack TBH, we used an adapted hydraulic log splitter because we had one and were lazy. Still lots of work for not much burn time though.

As a side note, wood pellet cat litter has got dear and lower grade of late because many new woodburners use the same pellets for fuel...with a costly hopper system.

Hows your welding and fabrication? Burners are simple to make. The new-ish regs on flues however are neither simple nor cheap.

I have never welded I'm afraid, I don't know why, never had the need I suppose. I am considering getting a welder this year though. but I would like a proper stove, oven, hotplate and all.

The issue comes with where to put it

Talk to me before you invest in a welder mate, its a minefield. I can help you there at least. Building a simple burner is a good starter project, you can easily have a hotplate and even water heater. What sort of burner were you looking at ? Or has it not got that far yet ?
