hi guys just wondered how many of us, myself included get started on prepping projects then somehow fail to see them through?
i have to do lists which i try hard to stick to then my time is taken up with other matters which seem take first place and the prep bit dont get done. then i end up kicking myself. cos i know deep down thats the prepping matter should come first.
for example some of my prepping gear is used on a daily basis but if i had to vacate my home quickly id be running around like a headless chicken trying to locate the stuff ive got for long term bug out. most of my stuff and supplies are in big plastic boxes but some not for example i know id need to take leather working stuff and hand tools but i use them almost daily so would it make sense to purchase identical items, and store them.?
also how many of us have done dummy runs ie getting stuff from the house to the car in a hurry. ive tried this once and what should be done in under ten mins took anhour and 7 mins and when i checked the gear as i brought it back in some of the stuff i should have loaded up hadnt been.
and to be honest that didnt include the time it took to remove the rear seats of my vehicle. i think bug out would be better for me and my family cos the area we live in is a bad one at the best of times. i must get more organised any thought guys...

Believe it is called "Work in Progress" rather than a UFO ("Unfinished Object") - at least that is what I keep telling myself!!!

Re: plans go pear shaped
I'd recommend build a proper BOB, one you are happy with, then zip it up and only touch it when you need to rotate food and water. Don't go dipping into it when you need to use a torch or some matches or whatever, or you never know what'll be missing if/when you really need it.
As far as your daily work tools go, I'd get a spare set anyway "2 is 1, 1 is none".
No need to get hung up on prepping as a priority over everthing else, a little bit every now and then and at least you are ahead of the vast majority of the sheeple, you will never really be 'finished' prepping anyway, there will be a new project every time you finish the last one and find a new hole in your plans !

Only plans I tend to have that go pear shape involve other people. It's easy enough to do something yourself but other people can be unreliable.

thanks guys ive already got bug out bags sorted and i dont touch them but as with my longer term bug out gear you are absolutely right. i need to toughen up as well cos ive got a so called mate. who mentioned he was getting into prepping. i gave him all of my extras and we are talking a lot of stuff. two weeks later a family member of mine saw him at a car boot sale and guess what was up for sale? well it wasnt just some old vases and brickabrac... it was the stuff id given him. he must have took me for a right mug. i didnt mention it at all but havent spoken to him properly since.
he has none of the stuff i gave him and when i asked him about it he said his shed had been broken into and the lot taken i knew different but choose not to pursue it any further. yet he has still said things like i could do with one of those or have you got one of these i just reply with am not into the survival thing anymore. and besides i gave you one of whatever!!! the guy was ok when i first met him but my show of kindness and generousity but ive come to realise hes nothing but a parasite. i wouldnt trust him an inch. and have learned a valuable lesson... only mention that lot cos he seemed to have been a great guy. and may well have been good company in a survival situation. i could have helped him and his family and visa versa i thought but right now i wouldnt P on him if he was on fire.
its hard enough prepping and by nature il help anyone not anymore. from then till now i havent trusted anyone with my prepping plans. i think if the shtf he and his kind would be the ones to watch out for in my local...
as one of you guys said prepping by yourself is not so hard but asking others to help you are leaving yourself wide open... i only hinted at the guy in question and all he saw was £££££££££££££££££££ signs and would have done all he could to get money... no sense of loyalty but to himself. no sense of decency. or moral code of cunduct just one question How on earth did i ever allow scum like that through my door?? it must have been a very weak time in my life...
take heed people!!!
but back to the original thread i am going to take your advice obtain duplicates of the stuff i own stash it safe, inventory everything and not touch it ecept in rotation.... al start on my lists a bit later today get organised and stick to what im doing come hell or high water cheers for all you help guys

Re: plans go pear shaped
Thats horrendous! You were wise to tell him you'd given it up ... I've kept what prepping I do completely separate from RL, because I'd get a lot of "you're not turning into one of those, are you" ... CBA to challenge it, so I keep quiet.
As far as projects are concerned, by the way - I've got a list. If I do a bit of one, and hop around them and don't finish properly, well, I'll come back to it, because I'm aware of it. And some things can only be done at certain times of the year anyway.

Remember it makes him an arsehole not you a fool, trusting maybe, not weak, if we don't reach out, make connections, have generousity then where's the hope, you're a good person Fox be careful yes but stay that way (nice I mean) don't let it make you bitter.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: plans go pear shaped
1) You have to ask yourself if you are moderately more prepared than you were before you started on the unfinished project. If you are then you have little to worry about. Most of my projects are unfinished projects, but from each of them I have learned something and I have more equipment just in case of anything that might be unexpected.
2) I don't give much away because I haven't got much in the first place, but if I do, I do it because I want to get rid of that thing in question, not because person x y or z promises to us it in that way in particular. After all, there is no prenuptial agreement between two people when you get rid of some junk.
Once its their property they can throw it off a bridge, burn it, sell it, do something deviant and inappropriate with it or choke on the bloody thing and they may as well because its not mine anymore.
