Quinoa question

Post by junmist »

I have been looking at a grain( its a seed realy) called Quinoa seems a bit of a super food has all 9 of the amino acids that we need has something called Lysine in it which is good for tissue growth and repair. Is high in protein-manganese-magnesium-Iron and copper. Stores for a year in a cupboard the question is has anyone tried this grain as it seems to be beating rice hands down on the nutrition front. I know we can store rice for about 10years I would be intrested to know if anyone has stored the quinoa longer than a year.

I think that due to the high oil content of Quinoa it's unlikely to store as well (long-term) as white rice for example. No reason why it can't store for more than 12 months, especially with mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. Depends how long you want to store your food for really. More than 10 years ? I'd suggest sticking with rice, a year or 2 ? Quinoa has definate nutritional advantages over rice :D

Does look pretty impressive, as Moony said with the high oil content though it’s probably impossible to keep long term. Was planning on growing some myself this year but never got around to it…have to give it a go next time.

It does last a long time, but to be safe, I think its best to vacuum pack it.
It sprouts like a champ and tastes fantastic. I always feel better after eating it, shame it costs so flaming much
