Was it you I just messaged on youtube? Strange coincidence if not........

Honestly though, just the term EDC knife makes me cringe, people say there's a certain type thats 'UK legal' but whatever concessions were granted under the knife laws in the 90's had already been taken away by the offensive weapons at back in the 50's. A law which basically stated the crime was in intent not the object. So even having one of those miniature penknives on your key ring puts you in a legally precarious situation. Especially since in such cases many copper are inclined to arrest now and ask questions later….around 8 hours later. By which point you’ve read a magazine on cycling three times and are more than happy to accept their caution, without even thinking you’ve now essentially got a criminal record.

Then of course there’s always the chance you’ll end up in a bad situation and need to defend yourself. You might just pull the knife intending to scare them but then one of them ends up getting cut or stabbed…that’s GBH..about 2 years inside with good behaviour.

if you need to carry a knife, then carry a knife, i keep mine in a pouch on my belt, not in full view, its under my shirt hidden from view and someone looking at me would not know i was carrying a knife.i have never been one for brands, the one i carry is unmarked, has a blade of just over 3 inches and yes its a lock knife, a knife is a tool nothing more, dont go waving it about and you'll be fine, just dont take it anywhere where they have metal detectors-like on a plane. :D

I carry a Swiss Army knife all the time. It is legal under "THEIR" rules.

Do not get mistaken between lawful and legal. They are totally different.

Be lucky ( and lawful )

SAK here too, in my bag I have with me pretty much all the time. As it isn't readily accessible it would be hard to prove any form of intent other than to fix stuff :D

Probably not due to it having a locking mechanism,if stopped you'd have to give a reasonable explanation of why you were carrying it (reasonable to the officer & that's where it gets wooly I'd say)

You might want a "pocket knife" ie sub 3" non locking blade such as a swiss army knife. You don't require a valid reason to carry a pocket knife as described

You still cant carry it anywhere eg public transport, courts, football grounds etc

There are exceptions for carrying as part of a religious obligation or for occupational necessity

You might find this helpful

As said above a lot depends on the view of the individual police officer ,so to some extent you take your chances.

Assume no. The only person who could answer that definitively would be the judge on the day. A lawyer would have a good idea but if it were I I'd still say no.
I personally carry a sak with a blade over 3in that locks. I've accepted the fact that I could be arrested etc and have accepted that risk. I would defend myself in a court and never accept a caution instead of that. Full indictment or full release with my property, their call. If you're of a certain demographic you may find it far more hassle and be at.higher risk of a stop and search etc. Good luck figuring it out ;)

I can't risk gettin a criminal record as I'm goin to be applying for a new fire arms certificate at the end of the year and I plan to emigrate to America in the next 18 months. I think I'll just stick with my little leatherman style.

That would be the wisest move. Just remember that you may still have to explain and indeed prove why you're carrying a blade of any description. That's just the ridiculous nature of our current 'offensive weapons' laws. Best of luck with the firearms and emigration applications ;) not sure which is harder lol :)
