Given the terrible winds in Scotland just now can I ask where you all stand on warm clothes when prepping. I have a very cosy sheepskin coat, however it is very heavy. Its old and a bit dated but as I said very warm. I tend to wear it just to go clay shooting, the pockets are nice and big for storing cartridges and I dont go often enough to buy a proper shooting vest.
So from a prepping point of view would I be better of getting a lighter more 'mountaineering' type jacket?
Also jumpers, I love my arran knits, but again....very heavy. Not very good if you have to leave in a hurry.
Can anyone advise?

Re: warm and windproof
Layers is the simplistic answer.
How the military describe it.
Modern layers are made from lightweight, warm, quick drying, wicking fabrics, and for that bit of luxury a bit of Merino wool goes down well, and new fabrics like those made from Bamboo are very good.

Brings back some memories..... mostly good ones
+1 on the Merino, Aldi/Lidl usually have some great deals on their Merino Thermals
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Re: warm and windproof
the main issue with keeping warm is keeping dry.
I recommend "Flexothene" waterproofs. they come in a dark green, are flexible, waterproof(obviously) can be washed, last forever, are mostly noiseless and are comfortable to wear.
the down side is they are not particularly cheap but then most good quality waterproofs arnt.
