I’ve been a long time prepper ever since I first heard of peak oil back in 2004. I knew I had plenty of time to prepare for that one so my accumulation was slow paced and methodical based solely on finances available.
The greatest...no, the very best thing about being a prepper is that when it does happen I won’t be in shock or blind panic as it will be for 99% of the industrial World. For us we have already faced those fears and turned that fear into calm, logical reasoning and thinking. We have plans in place, food stored and options for different scenarios.
For the last 5 months I have been ramping up my gear, food and knowledge at a quicker pace. I am NOT a doom merchant but I can clearly see the economic debt and material consumption has reached levels never deemed possible and both are unsustainable.
Why am I here? That one is simple. I need to be surrounded people who UNDERSTAND what I’m trying to do. I have given up hinting to people. Even saying something as simple as “it might be an idea to stock a little food just in case” causes raised eyebrows.
In America before Katrina we were called “Survivalists” and people thought we were crazies. After Katrina we were Preppers with a lot more people saying “Why weren’t we prepared?”. Sadly the blinkers are still firmly on the vast majority of the UK population.
I pray for a localised, bcommunity based society but concede that this probably isn’t how it will end up. I know I can’t prepare for all situations but at least I can prep for the ones that can be prepped for.
Sorry for the lengthy first post but I had a lot I needed to get off my chest
