Here is what i had to undertake at work i though i would post some pics to give people an idea of storage location of a small collection of items.

What are you hoping to stash???

I was talking to my OH about burying an old fridge etc but he just looked like I was mad.
How will you cover the top - and then open it again?

Ok serious, As Sue says how you going to cover the top and keep moisture out?

the door is a complete seal although i did run it over in the tractor and broke it off

but this particular fridge is only to hide electiric fence unit not the stash i used it for photo op. i will cover it with a sheet of plastic 2 inch from surface and cover with soil.

I wonder if this were to be somewhere to hide 'your stash' so to speak, them perhaps building a frame the size of the fridge door to lay above the fridge, cover with plastic then soil, leaves etc would make it easier to get to the stash, as you could just lift up the frame rather than dig the soil out?

I guess you have a good place to "lose" the soil you have removed as well, a cubic foot of sub-soil weighs about 100lb and a fridge will be at least a couple of cubic feet.
