kettle Ghillie

just tried out my new Ghillie kettle, really quick to boil with some decorative bark i found near a new housing complex sale-room. Gave me at least a pint and a half in about five mins. The bark seemed to be of pine origin and had a bit of resin within it. Now i am independent of utility power to mash my cuppa whoooo

Used these when doing my Forest School training. Yet to get one though, I'll add it to my list!!

I am assuming that is like a Kelly Kettle (don't say keckle).

I got a Kelly Kettle for Christmas and it is still in the box although I did take it out to admire it for a while.

I heard that putting tin foil round the bottom of the inside keeps the metal clean and does not effect the speed at which it boils.

Alternatively, you can rum grass on the inside to remove the smoking.

Great bit of kit!Used the one pint one for years out fishing-bought the big,full-on -with cooking kit.That's brilliant.Don't worry about it sooting up,get used to using it.Before the next powercut.Tip here-if you have the big one ,boil it full,use what you need,and put the rest of the hot water in a flask.Save fuel.

I have a small kelly kettle I use at camp sites as most don't allow open fires. I tend to use it for making coffee and hot chocolate and boiling water for noodles or mountain house meals.

The thing works fine, soot is a part of using it. I just wash most of it off after I get back from camping. The nice thing about it is being able to burn twigs and other bits you pick up. The pot holders are not great to use if you need one for anything but boiling water get a rocket stove.

My wife bought me the all singing all dancing big one. About as portable as an Arga. OK so I exagerate, but I think maybe I should have asked for the 1 pint one. She got me all the attachments so I might just have to dig it out and give it a whirl.
