Hi,

I'm Dave and I just registered. I have always been interested in prepping. During the energy crisis I bought a generator and installed a changeover switch so I could run my house off it. Tested it a few times, but had problems with the UPSs for computers cutting in and out. Came to the conclusion I need a voltage stabiliser and it got progressively more expensive. I'm a technologist and I'm quite anti-cloud. I have all my applications and services downloaded and running independently. I built my own server room and run a server with virtual machines hosting everything I need. I am currently developing an app for the prepping community, which is 99% done. Won't post it here as I don't want it to be seen as marketing. But interested very much in getting in contact with like minded geniuses nearby.

Hi from just outside the Midlands in the North West.

Share your ideas and approaches and don't be shy.

I bought a small Genny during covid but have since been into using solar, with much 'sperimenting and reconfiguring.
The Genny at 600W is just enough to use at the allotment.
My off grid solar became off grid battery only with inverter, when my solar panels blew away
Currently awaiting legit connection of my 'balcony system' which replaced the old solar.
It is great to be the only one with a telly and a few bits running during a power cut.

Food resilience is my angle with an embarrassment of rations.

Hi, I'm from the North West originally (Wirral).

What's a balcony system? That's intriguing. I want to get solar but when I do it I want to do it 'big' on my final house, and I'm not sure if I want to stay where I am now. When I looked into it, it seems I would need a garage full of batteries, and lots of kit. A mini power station! I use a lot of electric with the server room, etc. I'm just looking at getting the garage converted in this new house, and wondering whether to make a pit-room below the garage to stash supplies and stuff, but it seems it interferes with the damp course membrane.

Is it OK to post in one of the other threads / new thread about my prepper app? I am looking for like minded people to test it out. I don't wanna get booted for marketing - it's technically not for sale yet as it hasn't gone to production - but I do need testers on board and that's what I'm struggling with at the moment.

Google "balcony solar UK". Basically a plug and play system with about 1000W of solar panels ( 2 big ones) that feeds direct to your ring main.... Pending legislation.
