FFP3 masks question

Post by nightowl »

I've got some masks already but I've got a couple of questions about FFP3 ones. A lot of places sell them, from DIY shops to medical supply firms. Does it mean that if you buy an FFP3 mask from Screwfix it should offer the same protection against bacteria etc as one from a medical supply firm? I don't know if there are different types... I'm no expert on them you can tell. Also some have a valve while others do not. What's the difference?

If you don’t follow hygiene protocol it won’t be worth a W&nk! You want to hold Screwfix responsible if you get The Virus?

If you don’t fit and remove a mask, using hygiene protocols they are useless. I will find a link.

ffp3 is 20x wel they are tested the same way under eec testing rules

there are a range of masks in terms of quality and fit and robustness. Some will slip in a pocket others are semi ridgid some have adjustable straps others the elastic twangs off the fixing point on the first use (I've had a debate with a 3m rep who got the arse on when I got samples and he came back a week after chasing a sale.....)

I'm no expert on them you can tell. Also some have a valve while others do not. What's the difference?

user comfort. But if your looking to protect others if your sick you want un vented...

But all that aside you need face fit testing for which ever mask you use as if it doesn't fit correctly it's as useful as a ash tray on a motorcycle... I've been fitted for a few masks and I just can't get a seal with the JSP half mask respirator it leaks round my nose... Yet moldex is fine... Last face fit I got they had me read aloud from a book looking up down and side to side as you don't sit still in the real world

And as above you need to have adequate decontamination methods and equipment to derobe and unmask...

Interestingly there was a news article saying that wearing a mask may heighten your chances of catching Coronavirus. I’m assuming they are meaning, if the inside gets contaminated before you start wearing it, you are constantly breathing it in without any way of gaining outside air/ventilation.

There seems to be a great deal of misinformation, that confuses more than helps

I think the `dont wear a mask` campaign is propaganda to ensure medical staff have enough supply. Most of the world wear them for a reason.

I got some surgical masks a while a go, but I only put them on my children when they are sick to stop the bugs spreading. Healthy people don`t wear them as they are useless for protection.

I do use my respro cycling mask outside tho, as it has carbon/charcoal filters fitted, but i do cycle everywhere. If I had to go on the tube tho, I`d be in full ppe at the moment.... I loved the photo of the chap in a gas mask on the tube today, most sensible person there....
