I bought a box of this to try the other week. It's 87p for a box, containing four sachets wrapped in foil. The use by date on the box is January 2013.
Having tried it I can safely say I will be buying more. It's easier to prepare than Smash (sorry CC!) because you don't have to faff about measuring various quantities of potato and water (I've had a few mishaps with Smash in the past when I've been unable to get the the consistency right). You just boil 1/2 litre of water and then stir in the contents of a sachet. And one sachet goes a long way, it would easily serve 2-3 people as part of a main meal. The potato light and fluffy once it's been made up. Tastewise, it's slightly saltier than Smash, but I liked that too.
All in all a good buy and I'll be getting a few boxes to stash in the cupboard.

Sainsbugs stuff is good - even the Basics range. I have used the mash too, dollop of butter and under the grill and its lovely. They also have bags of dried milk powder, and their Basics teabags are 28p and fine if you give them time to infuse.

What's the dried milk powder like? Marvel is over around £3.00 a canister, and not having bought/used powdered milk before I just decided to get that...but if I could get cheaper that would be much, much better.diamond lil wrote:Sainsbugs stuff is good - even the Basics range. I use Tesco red label tea bags and really like those.

Sainsburys milk is better than Marvel, I won't pay that and it tastes like sewage. I think I have had Asda dried milk as well and found it ok.

Re: Sainsbury's Instant Mashed Potato
just to update folks on this we had a sachet with some nice pork chops last night. this is really good stuff, as Itsy says saltier than others I've tried but very tasty. unless you are chemically addicted to another mash I would really recommend you try some of this. I'll be buying several more boxes for the stores.
also it really is 3 portions in a sachet (well maybe 2.5 but we're big eaters). OH and I had a very generous serving each and there was left overs for me to do some fry cakes for my breakfast this morning too.

It will keep a lot longer if you use a vacuum bag or one of the lakeland cheaper vac pumps, about £10 but well worth it. also if you store the bags in a hard container it will last even longer about 4 times.
