Thinking...

Post by diamond lil »

Was thinking today while I emptied out the compost bin ( )... if things went to custard suddenly how well are we really prepared ? With me it's usually "when I get paid next month I will get ..." but what if next month's money never goes in because things have got bad fast ? Is ok saying oh I've planted this and that and got tons of seeds in the drawer .. but have I really got enough to tide us over until the plants are ready to eat ? Will there be enough to stop us starving if we had no money or no shops?
Sometimes you feel dead smug and think everything's under control - but at other times you take a good look at the stash and think oh god that's not enough !

You're not alone! I have the same prepping 'fear' too!

Maybe we need to sort out some survival basic foods and get in a lot of it. We could live happily forever on porridge, but maybe muesli would provide a nice change... could do some of that. And soup is the all-time standby.... please world don't go to hell until my leeks & tatties are in !

I think he probably does Itsy

I was reading a book the other day which im loving and its called When there is no doctor b Gerard S. Doyle from the process self-reliance series. It talks about psychological stress inoculation and says that in a survival situation its not about what you have but how you think and how you behave.
By anticipating events and thinking about how they might affect you and how you would act your preparing yourself emotionally.

I have that too. I also will walk down the hill to the 24 hr tesco in the middle of the night when the panic sets in. but I do that with non-prepping related stuff too. I don't sleep well usually and walking around looking at the spices and chutneys really calms me down (mind goes from "oh crap how am I going to pay the credit card bills to "ohhhh, that'd be great with salt pork!"). but I need a lot more of everything *is tired of being a damned newbie*

PS not that I have any credit card bills anymore, woohooo!

Hmmmm...I need more pots, more compost and a lot more heirloom seeds - then a planting rota to make sure I've got something, all year round. 'Cept kale and turnip - bleurgh!!!

Just 'more' of everything, I think...
