Hi! I’m a newbie from South Oxfordshire. I’ve been increasingly concerned about the state of the world’s economy for the last couple of years and started following US preppers websites. I was delighted to come across this UK forum.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve tried to prepare as best I can and within a limited budget.
Wealth preservation: I’m not wealthy but I have moved 75% of what we do have saved up into Gold and Silver bullion. Both have increased substantially in the past year and I think that with all the money printing (quantitive easing) going on, that the value with continue to rise, or rather, the value of paper money will decrease and gold and silver will hold their value. Our remaining cash has been converted into an Australian $ in an overseas saving account.
I purchased a range of freeze dried foods from Mountain House. It will store for 25 years and gives us a 2 month food supply. This stuff is expensive but I think of it like insurance. I’ve also picked up an old IBC 600 litre container for water storage. I now plan to buy more dry and tinned food for storage.
I prepped a Bug Out Bag with emergency survival gear, bought an old Toyota Hilux Surf as a Bug Out Vehicle and started to make my own biodiesel.
I’m keen to hear how others are preparing and any hints and tips.

Hi GAB, welcome to the forum. As for how I'm prepping .... well I'd say piecemeal in fits and starts!

Welcome GAB.
As for my efforts I'd say that a work in progress accuartely reflects them, certainly some behind your own.

Thanks for the welcome. Compared with many of our friends in the USA I don't feel that prepared and want to do much more. I suppose it all depends on how much time you think you have before the SHTF. Sadly, I think it could be sooner rather than later and this has been my motivation.
Having taken early retirement a couple of years ago it is much easier for me to give my prepping the time it needs. As to budget, I buy lots of stuff on eBay and watch out for bargains. Having a list of requirements helps. You don't need to be wealthy to buy Gold and Silver. I use these guys: http://www.goldline.co.uk/ You can buy small amounts. Be aware that if you take delivery of Silver you have to pay VAT. Gold, howver, does not attract VAT. I stay away from Collector Coins as these have a high premium.
For future posts, I'd be happy to share details of my BOB, BOV, Biodiesel production and backup power plans etc.

Buy silver from the channel islands, then you don't pay VAT.
