Hi

I am planning on using the ash from my wood burner. Scattering it on the paths and drive. Seemed to sort the ice out - but is a bit messy!

My grandparents said it was what they used to do.

My folks did that too. Since I have an open fire it makes sense (and have no access to rock salt) or, if I can persuade the OH, will use grit from the nearest beach. All of it has to be swept up of course when the snow goes, but with all the often torrential rain we get here in the north west, it can be surprisingly little.
