Salutations & the Like

Post by BookishCrow »

Well, Hello there all, I'm a 22 yr old Prepper from the States. I found you lot when I was discussing with my Fiancee, who's from Wiltshire, about what location would best serve to protect ourselves as well as our future family. As a woman who hopes to have a larger family one day, safety in troubling times is my number one goal. I was looking up information on UK Prep, what areas would be considered safer -my DF suggested more highland areas- yet I still have concerns as to where would be considered the best regions to settle down and not only raise a family; but a self-sustainable, action oriented family. Coming from an American background my biggest worries were the sheer size of the US vs UK, being from a military family I've been all over America, I'm familiar with its regions and know how easily a person could just disappear into the space. However, Britain's landmass is about equal in size to NY, which is where I live...that worries me. I would love to be able to live and Prep in the UK with my Fiancee (soon to be husband); any knowledge, advice, or regional information -differences in plant foraging, plant types, medicinal herbs, and hardiness- or data on groups or programs to get involved with would be most welcome.

I look forward to meeting, discussing and learning from all of you. Browsing through your boards has already assuaged much of my fears about the UK being a safety impossibility. Also, please know I have the utmost amount of respect for the level of rationality, logic, and good sense that goes into UK prepping vs some of the gun heavy and violent strategies of my American counterparts.

Much peace and love, Blessed Be,

Crow

What a lovely post! Welcome :)

I think as far as foraging and growing is concerned, the southern counties of England are the easiest - and the west is the least populated, south east England is intensely populated (ahem, thats where I live!).

Since you fiance is from Wiltshire ... job done, I think!

As for groups and programmes to get involved in - join in whats there. When British expats go abroad, they're often advised to rent before they buy, to be sure they like the area, that might be good to do within the UK itself.

Hi,

As above what a lovely post. Welcome to UK Preppers and I hope you settle in as well as i have. As much as you have rightly said it is a relatively small country in comparison, thus is the challenge and the need to be that little bit more inventive in your solutions. Improvise, adapt and overcome. There is many, many people here willing to help you and your fiancee with advice in prepping. I believe it was once said that the only stupid questions are the ones you dont ask!

Anything we can do to help please Holla!

Kindest regards

Oh my, thank you so much for the warm greetings. I'm incredibly chuffed. I'm probably a bit late in replying, however I wasn't able to get things to post at first so had to wait, then I was busy all yesterday. I am definitely looking forward to jumping right in now that things are working though. *blushes* I'm very glad you all find my manner pleasant, I always feel nervous about being an american coming onto UK boards, but my sincerest hope is to always meet great people, be accepted on the merit of mine own mind and manner. It means a lot to me to be so welcomed already.

Much Love, Blessed Be,
