What medicines to store?

Hi all, can I ask you what type of medicines/medication you feel is essential to store and why? I have a small supply of first aid equipment...bandages, plasters, painkillers etc. I was hoping you might give me an indication what would be essential? Thanks for your help. J

Normal everyday stuff, just more of it. In addition to whats mentioned, for instance, bandages, plasters, disinfectant, a thermometer, tick tweezers, nit comb, there's loads of threads on here about what to get.

I think its acceptable to buy kit that you don't know how to use, as long as you don't try to use it - if you buy it because you think it may not be available in the future, and you can find a paramedic or doctor who *does* know how to use it, then you've still potentially done a lifesaving thing there. But people have different views on that.

Unless its something I specifically need at that time....I tend to just look for the reduced useful items on offers.

Plasters and antiseptic creams or similar are always useful to me, as if its sharp and/or pointy I will probably find it.

One that I don't hear about so often though is Iodene Tincture - an excellent disinfectant/antiseptic, readily available (cheaply) from a certain rainforest named online "store."

amongst the usual pain killers and plasters , i have a big first aid box [tool box] again the usual stuff but i also have a lot of single use scalpels and surgical latex gloves . bottles of dettol .
i do have some of the store brand imodium type of capsules along with decongestants and cough med , sore throte treatment .

I tend to buy the own-label stuff rather then branded.

All medicines sold in this country should have a PL number (should look like "PL 12345/0001"), if not its either an illegal import (which could contain anything) or its not a medicine.

I saw on some TV program recently that one drug-company sells several different pain products (as in "Targets joint pain/back pain/period pain") that all have exactly the same PL number....Therefore are exactly the same drug.


I'm still looking for a supply of Kerlix (or a uk version) for less then 2 quid a roll

What would Iodene Tincture be used for?

I have large stocks of antibiotics and inhalers, anti sickness and a few sleeves of high mg pain killers. Although these will be used as barter items as they will be saught after the most. I even have a full paramedics pack full. I'd probably say this is the area im most stocked up in.
