I know that topics on "weapons" have been done to death on here but I am asking for peoples opinion's on this as a recreational tool and a useful item in a SHTF situation.
I have always been one who has had bows/arrows and catapults growing up but recently came across a slingbow as being an compact amalgamation of the two.
Does anyone own one, or has owned/used one and what are your opinion s one them as opposed to having a bow/arrows and catapult as separate items?
For the benefit of the forum I am trying to get informed opinions on this as both a recreational tool and as something I may want in case of a SHTF situation but I don't want this spiralling into a zombie apocalypse thread please

There was a guy on that new prepper show last night who used an arrow with a catapult.
I am assuming that is where this question comes from.
He was the guy with one eye and the gorgeous dog.
I thought it was a fox when I first saw it sticking it's head out of the window.
Ron Hoods, in his DVD's, uses a Carabiner clip and medical tubing to make a small bow and arrow which is quite accurate and lethal.
It would fit nicely in your pocket, the arrows would be a bit harder to get in there but that is one for someone else to figure out.
I used a cheap metal slingshot and made a arrow rest with bent wire. Hey presto, slingbow and dead cheap. Power was good when used with kiddie arrows with rubber suckers (using a cheaper version of theraband sliced thin). If my bands were longer i would have enough length for proper arrow shooting and I believe that the accuracy would be great. Not quite on par with bow power maybe, but still a good medium range weapon.

Be lucky (and arbalested)
As long as you're sure he didn't loose the eye using the slingbow, then it seems like a viable hunting weapon, for small game of course.
It said the guy lost his eye in a paintballing accident.
He had what looked like a glass eye that was all black.
It looked quite cool but not cool enough to emulate.
I love the idea with the pipe and shooting through it.
Here is a link to the Ron Hood Slingbow I mentioned earlier.
I did have one, well still do sort of, made with a black widow catty with a whisker biscuit cable tied on, same setup Dave Canterbury used in one of his earlier youtube vids. Unfortunately I've lost the whisker biscuit insert, I can find no UK suppliers of them, seems they have to be shipped from America. It's a compound bow sight thats great for adapting for use with a slingbow.
Used carbon and wooden arrows with it, shooting at a martial arts kick pad from around 20 yards, great fun but not much good for anything bigger than small game which you would need to practise a lot to be able to hit.
I would of course only condone bow hunting in a SHTF scenario.
