mylar bags
Sorry if this has been raised somewhere else, had a quick scan through search but couldnt find and answer. Can you put bags of stuff into mylar bags, rather than emptying individual bags into the bag? for example bags of soup/broth mix beans? Just doing my first lot of mylaring and want to get it right but it was quite labourious pouring tins of powder potato into the bags, and time could be saved if I can just chuck prepacks in. Do I have to puncture the bags to make sure the oxygen gets absorbed? Thanks in advance

Re: mylar bags
Yes, that's what I do. Give the product packaging a few small nicks with a knife, then put them into the mylar bag, chuck in your oxy absorbers and seal. It just gives an added layer of protection. Plus, you can put a variety of goods into one bag, rather than having all rice/pasta/beans etc. So when the time comes to open one of the mylar baggies you've got a selection of food. For example, you could put one packet of soup mix, one packet of rice and one packet of pasta into a mylar bag.
