Wondermill junior grain mill

Post by Sheepster »

Thought Id post this for anyone considering grinding their own flour. Been saving for a while and finally recieved our grain mill today. Set it up in about 5 minutes and was ready for grinding. I bought 20 kilos of suitable wheat so will have enough for a while and of course un cracked wheat will last for years properly stored. I put 500g of wheat in the hopper and started winding the handle. After an initial adjustment or two to get the flour the right texture I reckon I ground the lot in between 5 to 10 minutes. I found it pretty easy going but you know youve been grinding for sure, If your cold it will definately warm you up. Suffice to say the whole family have just been munching down on a lovely made from scratch wholemeal loaf full of goodness and it tastes lovely. Now just need to find a local farmer so I can buy cheaper wheat although I reckon its still only costing me about 50-60p a loaf and probably less than that if I thunked about it properly . You can buy a drill bit attachment for the junior model which of course would make it easier but I quite like the fact you have to work for your bread makes you appreciate it more. So if your in the market for a mill based on my experience so far I can highly reccommend one.

That's a lot of money for a mill. They shouldn't cost so much in my opinion because they are very easy and cheap to build. I'm still on the look-out for something that gives more value for money.

Yup isnt the cheapest but its guaranteed for 2 years and does exactly what it says it does, There is cheaper alternatives but I didnt feel they were up to the job.
