I'm in the process of re-building my BOB and one of my primary concerns is that should I need to travel long distances on foot (for possibly days) I'm going to need food and water. This means that everything will have to fit into a medium sized MOLLE/rucksack and weight must be kept to a minimum.
Over the last few days I have been trying to find a type of food that would suit the potential situation. I realize that breakfast bars wont give the right nutrients needed and regular MRE's are out of my budget at the moment. I had thought about packet noodles, but this would mean carrying around a mess tin, pocket stove and gas, plus again, they don't give the right nutrients. Cans of soup are an idea but are bulky.
So while I was sitting amongst the organized chaos of equipment taken out of my BOB trying to think of a type of food that is small, ready to eat, pre-packaged, and has all the nutrients for a balanced diet; my cat wondered over and climbed into the empty bag. What a good idea I thought. and that is why I'm asking you guys for some advice. Cat food is pre-packaged, ready to eat, cheap alternatives to MRE's and as a bonus, they are specifically designed to give a balanced diet. Now don't get me wrong, I haven't gone ahead and tried eating it yet, in all honesty I don't know if I could stomach it, but when faced with starvation I think I would change my mind? Has anyone else had this idea, or should I stick to the canned soup?
