Newbie prepper advise welcome

Post by mogs »

Hi all Mogs here, I have had the urge to prep for such a long time but with no support from my man had put it on the back burner, have tried to explain to him that there is nothing wrong with being prepared to a certain extent but he is like nah Im good as is!

Needless to say I still had the urge so have started my preps, so have decided to get on with it and IF one day my preparations are needed I can be happy in the nowledge that I can provide for my immediate family for at least a short while!

I guess Im kind of lucky with my partner because although he doesnt share my enthusiasm, he has no objections in letting me get on with it!

The part Im finding a bit difficult though is not being able to have an adult conversation about it for longer than a minute, I usually see the eyes roll! this is why I have joined this group, so that I can converse with like minded people.

So hi all, any beginner advise is more than welcome.

Welcome Mogs, I am in the same boat as you with my husband, he founds it very funny and then shows my small stockpile of water and beans that i have temporary stored in a closet to his family and they are so closed minded like him that they too make a joke about it. Thankfully they don't think i am a prepper but my husband decided to tell my sister and her husband that i am a prepper and she hit the roof. I just played it down as they won't understand.

You say your man doesn't care if you do it or not and that is good as i know if my husband found out the huge cost i will be spending he will be very annoyed and i am sure a agruement will arise.

So for the time being i get my preppering chat here and i hope down the road my husband gets involved. But that is wishful thinking.

Glad Im not alone survival chic, my partner has said as long as he doesnt have to pay out for my preps he doesnt mind, as long as I fund it myself hes happy, he is happy to pay all of our normal outgoings and allows me to spend my wages on anything I like which is sooo odd! obviously I contribute to the bills but he tells me i dont need too, very old fashioned lol! I guess although he doesnt want to talk about prepping he is still enabling me to do it in a round about way! I hope that your hubby comes round for you and he realises your not crazy, and that failing to be prepared is being prepared to fail!! if TSHTF at least we will be ready to support them and Im sure they will be truly gratefull. :D

Snap. My wife is the same. She is OK with limited food storage but she knows I want to go further. She let's me have my head with it but I get the feeling she thinks that I will get bored

I am very serious about this and already have a months food for 4. I am expanding my bush craft and foraging skills and am getting a poly tunnel in summer so I can expand my food growing.

Whatever anyone says there is nothing wing with doing the best for you family. Some people are very short sighted and you will never change them

Leave him, sounds like he'd be useless in a crisis. Oh... and welcome!
