It's OH who does the breadmaking here. Never tried on an open fire, and is out just now. Will ask for tips later and pass them along :)

are you making bread indoors or on an open fire?

theres a clip with ray mears making pan bread that he cooks by the fire i seem to recall, might be worth watching if can find it.

might even be some tips from river cottage somewhere on youtube maybe...

i love making bread, just dont do it often enough.

good quality strong flower and some seeds. YUM, enjoy

Those look great :)

Could you do a basic run through of how you did it? OH is interested, but unsure how to go about it without a dutch oven or other enclosed space!

Me and my wife have been doing the same the last few weeks, tried a few things, but ended up trying this bread mix that Hovis do.

We bought a 2lb tin and as you can see it is far bigger, we have done rolls with mixed seeds also.

I've now done about 6 loafs, now i have got a feel for how the dough should be i'll try to make it from seperate ingredients, but i want to try this mix in the dutch oven too.

The bag is around 80p depending where you buy it and has a shelf life of 6 months. Just add water (although it does say add a bit of butter if you want, which i do), want to try it while camping too.

It is barely out of the oven and the kids want to eat it. ;)

This is the technique I use to make Bannock Bread (not my website but where I got the recipe/technique)

http://www.woodlands.co.uk/blog/woodlan ... ock-bread/

You can make it without the berries but any dried fruit is brilliant in it. The family love it cause I get up early and cook it for brekkie and let the smell sneak in the tent. Gets 'em up without a fuss!!! Honestly though, it is tasty bread but did take me three different recipes to get it right and the one above just makes the measurements so easy. You can wrap the dough round a stick and cook it without a pan over an open fire - bit easy to burn the outside though!
