prepper 1 non prepper 0

So tonight 9th jan im in work on the late shift booooo :(

Temp has dropped to below freezing and outside is white with frost and ice. So in our work we got a burst pipe and water has been off for good few hours now. Also the eletric has been off for some repair. For my section of work in a hut I have eletric heaters. Dont matter I became a prepper so im camping haha got blankets, plenty of water, got a gas stove on the go some nice warm food hot drinks extra clothes happy as could be. Other workers dont seem as pleased with lack of water and mainly heat. Could be a long night for them. Could have been me scary.

Have you guys any win stories when prepping was the answer?? Love to hear them

Hope you stay warm and toasty!

There's lots of experiences on here, but from my own prepping experiences, just candles and matches stored in every room for when there's power cuts, which happened a lot when I moved here at first.

Did anyone see The Iron Lady on Sunday? Ignoring the politics *completely*, there was a scene that showed a cabinet meeting during the 3 day weeks in the 1970s, and there was a power cut. The one with a torch that saved the day was, um, Maggie. Weird.

Now I have a fair quantity of food in in case it gets really cold and I have to stay in until it thaws outside . . . . .

I also got my ethanol in case we have a power cut and I need warmth and cooking heat . . . . .

I got my three gallons of water incase . . . . .

I got a basic first aid kit incase . . . .

I got my fire lighting thingy incase I need a fire . . . .

I got wind up torches incase i need light . . . . .

I got my olive oil lamp making equipment at hand incase . . . . .

Still more stuff to get, but I guess I am moving in the right direction.

We will have to see :)

St3vi3 - I've always worked on the principle that if you perceive a threat there are only 4 outcomes: -

a. You do nothing and nothing happens - you took a gamble, you were lucky.
b. Do nothing and something happens - you're screwed.
c. Do something and nothing happens - you look like a bit of a drama queen but hey it's all edible and you've learned something.
d. Do something and the threat materialises - you're the sighted man in the land of the blind.

Outside Hollywood, people are rarely lucky. At no other point of my life (Cold War, 1970's power cuts etc.) have I felt more threatened by forces outside my control. It feels good to have a plan - even better that I've got more than one!

Good story - good for you!

How hard was it for you to prep for this? Not at all. Just a small bit of money and forethought. It amazes me the non-preppers out there who just don't have this basic common sense...
