In the new year i shall be purchasing a Landrover Defender 110 300tdi (ideally) or a Discovery and modifying accordingly. Accompanying this purchase i shall be building a bug out trailer for my vehicle and maybe if funds allow it buying and restoring a Honda 350 Quad too
I shall photograph the build/restoration and post on site
Any recomendations suggestions will be grately appreciated being a newbie and all and ill be carrying out all work myself
get one of the military sankey trailers.. bomb proof and will go anywhere a defender will go.. also look at the 200tdi.. better on fuel consumption and a stronger engine. not any noticable lack of power over the 300tdi.. both engines will run on cooking oil amongst other things

Sounds good, i will keep an eye out for updates. Personally i would go for the Defender not the Discovery. I've had a Range Rover and a Defender and from experience the Defender was quicker to fix and most times easier. But at the end of the day it's up to you. Good luck with the project.
I agree with the gearbox access, i had to change the autobox filter and fluid. By far the worst job I've ever done on a car. Discos/Range Rovers have all that electronic crap that always goes pop. I'd much rather have a Defender again.
id avoid the newer Td5s we have them at work and they are not as strong or well built, i have an 85 defender that gets anywhere and most can be fixed with a hammer and some electrical tape. wife hates it but for the cost of running it she cant find a good reason for me to get rid of it

the main reason i pick the defender over disco is my time in forces ive repaired endless defender so have pretty good knowledge of what goes wrong
ex military probably best in my opinion
