HAVE YOU GOT A FIREPLAN?

Post by jansman »

Ok preppers, have you got a fireplan in place for your household? Do they all know what to do and where to go in the event of a housefire? They all do in my house, and boy am I glad I drummed it into them!
Phone call this morning from Eldest Daughter. She was staying at her boyfriend's flat last night. At 2am there was screaming and shouting outside in the hallways. Banging on the door, a neighbour told them to get out. The flat below was in flames. Sarah said the smoke was choking, and literally you could not see a hand in front of your face out on the stairwell. I have always insisted, where ever we are, we always suss out an escape route. She had. Out of the bedroom window, onto a balcony, and the guy over the road was already there with a ladder! Prepared as she was, her handbag and clothing were at the side of the bed. No one hurt, but terrific damage done.

Please, please talk to your Tribe and get a fireplan!

The wife thinks I'm mad when we go on holiday that the first thing I do I scope out the fire escapes , it haunts me a documentary that was on years ago about padlocked, fire exists and locked doors

Good plan in my books

Indeed I have to say it's one of my biggest fears, well done and good luck putting things back together.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

We've got one of those fold up ladders that you hook over the window ledge and then you climb down the side of the house, but I'm not convinced how successful that would be. I'm on the top floor and I'm not utterly sure if the ladder is long enough! My landlord was so pleased with himself when he showed it to me, but I don't think he factored in the 'climbing out of a really tiny window' aspect.

I think I'll be checking out all the variables tomorrow and if necessary having words with my landlord. Thanks for the prod Jansman! Glad your daughter is OK.

If the smoke is coming in, lay low. Keep doors shut. Know the way out. Ring the fire brigade. Get out, stay out!

Good grief! Congratulations on your foresight and your daughter's calm reaction to a truly life threatening situation. Just shows that tshtf doesn't need to be on a national or worldwide scale ... it can happen on an individual level, at any time, through no fault of your own.

I always check the fire exit route when I stay in a hotel, but I don't think I ever have when I've stayed at a friend's. Something to remember.

Glad she made it ok! Also that noone else was hurt. Thanks also for the reminder to sort the plan out for our new place. Fire extinguishers and escape ladder methinks!

Hi tom yes I agree with you on the fire extinguisher thing but do people really know how long one lasts when you pull the pin and squeeze the leavers

That surprised me
