Newbie! Trish from Liverpool

Post by Trish52 »

I'm Trish, I'm from the North West of England, yes, the land of tea and crumpets. I'm a University student who has a secret passion for prepping! I've been prepping for about a year now, tips would be helpful.

Tell us more Trish! Are you prepping for yourself or family? What are you prepping for?

I started prepping initially because of the threat of H5N1. Talk about being in panic mode! Gradually, through talking, reading and learning, I now prep for things that are most likely to happen - from a burst pipe, central heating breaking down to unemployment, illness, that sort of thing. I am making contingencies for less-likely scenarios - so I'm growing and storing (freezing and dehydrating) food and becoming self sufficientish in lighting, cooking and heating.

Where to begin! I'll be honest, I'm prepping because I believe sooner or later there will be an outbreak of a contagious disease that the government is not prepared for and also natural disasters. With the current weather conditions, I can't risk being unprepared. It's more of a private hobby I do as I get rather strange looks when I try to talk about it to my friends or family members, they think I'm completely nuts! I started prepping in larger quantities in August due to my mum having a cardiac arrest. She's on so much medication so It's made it an even bigger job than I imagined. I also have allergies so I'm stocking up on medication for me and my mum. Bizarrely, I'm also prepping for my pet's too! I have 2 dogs, 1 rat, fish and a bird  Call me crazy!
