We're both ex military so have a wide range of skills which will come in handy when and if the shtf, I'm also planning on moving the family in the new year, this was always on the cards and never had anything to do with prepping but its the perfect opportunity to find somewhere where surviving any major event will be better suited, also i plan on living more off the grid than i currently do, wood fires, solar, chickens/goats that sort of thing. Plus I'm putting in place a means to get off this island should the need arisie.
One thing i wont be doing is advertising to all and sundry that I'm a prepper, those who tell others that they have a years supply of food are asking for trouble and might a as well paint a red dot on their forehead because you've just become a walking target. People who have nothing when things go pear shaped will do anything to get what they need to survive and unless you can defend whats yours its best to keep info on what your up too on a need to know basis. You might well think your a bit tasty in a punch up but when the masses start rioting and looting to get what they need to survive and the man down the road knows your stocked up he'll be comming for you and your supplies along with whoever else he's told. Half a dozen blokes with tools screaming their gonna kill you unless you hand over your stash is a real possibility. Telling people who don't need to know is a no no in my book but thats just me.
The rising cost of food is alarming and has really pushed me into addressing my familys needs, if people cant afford to eat and are pushed into poverty then civil unrest isn't far behind, that and mother nature throwing her weight into it are my two main concerns the zombie apocalypse is way down the list of possibilities for me and ill leave that to the walter mittys.
Looking at whats happening around the world doesnt exactly fill me with confidence, i don't intend to become a victim I'm gonna do all i can to insure me and my family are as ready as we can be for whatever is around the corner and a more self sufficient lifestyle is a step in the right direction. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best is all you can do. I'll be seeing you around the boards
Peace.
