New student prepper

Post by Pointboy »

Hello, my name is point boy and obviously by the title of this thread i am a student so that means, I have no cash hardly. I know that prepping is not cheap but I would love some help with it because I am just trying to find way of prepping because I feel it is on our own heads to prep as the government will not do it for us.

Ok, to get to the point. The equipment i have is as follows:
- 5.11 Rush 12 hour back pack in multicam camo (no relevance just thought i would add)
- magnum WPI boots but can't find the specific style ( mainly for wet or cold or winter conditions i use them for)
- full 5.11 multicam camouflage
- waterproof trousers
- not so waterproof anorak
- magnum amazon 5 boots for hot weather
- chest rig i am hopefully going to use to get some molle items connected onto so I do t have to carry everything in the rucksack
- chest rig to place items in
- two composes
- flint and steel

I think that is all i have up to now I probably have more but will have just forgot.
Ok so what I'm getting at is that I'm just starting up and everyone starts somewhere so what would be the best things I could get to really start prepping. I don't think I will be able to store much food because I still live with my mother as well only a student at college so yeah :D . S what would be the best things I could start off with and what would be the best way I could go about prepping as a student with hardly any cash. Oh and I have 2 knives one is about 2 to 3 and a half inch and the other around a inch.

hello and welcome

food and water are the main things , if you cant store or grow a lot then hunting and trapping food will become very important to you , collect things that will help you with that , suck as snares fishing equipment nets, air rifles pellets , bows (long and cross) with arrows , buy books about foraging and plant recognition, also buy equipment that will help you cook the food and purify water steel and flint , stoves etc as well as a good water purification system . but more important than all of that is to not only learn to use that kit but is to use it until it becomes second nature

also consider looking into survival training courses

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like you are planning to bug out? What kind of event are you prepping for? Bugging out would be the very last option for me, and would have to be because of an absolutely catastrophic and sudden event. Do you know how to use your flint and steel as an example?

As the guys say, no point in having something you don't know how to use. Even familiarity with a tools operation will help.

Water is a biggy, you can only survive a couple of days with out it. Purification would be the best route for you to look into, if you lack storage space/mum won't let you store stuff.

Food is next, only about a week without this stuff, and don't forget the nutritional value and calorie count. The amount of food you need will depend on how many you are prepping for (is it just you and your mum, or are there other family members), and how long you believe you will need to survive without needing to go to a shop (temporary failure of infrastructure), or how long you need before you want to go hunting rabbits.

Heat/Fire for cooking and warmth and maybe water purification.

Clothing if you can't get/store enough fuel to heat your residence.

Tools to repair any equipment you rely on (boiler, generator etc.)

Hunting Tools to feed yourself after stores run out.

There is loads on this forum, but you'll have to go searching for it.

Prepping on a budget is difficult, I have found during the summer alot of the 'cheapy shops' pound land etc have a camping/outdoor section where you can pick up some really useful items for a great price also worth checking out car boot sales!

oh and for basics like soap/plasters/cleaning products/paracetamol see if you have a savers store near you, the difference in price between what you pay in savers and the regular supermarkets is nuts! and for the same brand name products!

welcome to the forum :D

Yes I am planning a bug out bag as where I live is on the edge of my city and well I don't want to be the first people to leave if SHTF and well I'm prepping for any type of event that could cause a citizen evacuation or uprise. I live literally on then edge of the country side aswel it's about less then one hundred yards forms my garden and I think I will as someone said look into snares and catching animals i will look into that, I also do know how to use a flint and steel and have some small Cary tinder looked away nice and dry for when I need it. But my main point is that I am trying to creat a bug out bag as I feel one day I will need it and that alot of things are converging in this world now i feel it is time to start getting ready. I also would like some sort of radio system that works on frequency but not sure where I would be able to pick one up from any ideas? And thanks for the welcome
