One thing I have started doing recently, is mentally scouting the immediate area for items, that if S were to HTF when I'm out, I would be able to utilise these if I needed them.

Example:- Say you go out to a resturant or "poncy bar for someone's birthday", on the walk from the car to the venue, did you pass a Hardware store? A clothing store? Camping store? etc. etc.
These places would have items you may need if you don't have your own, or enough for the people you are with.

Maybe have a think about the areas you spend most of your time (work, home, pub, gym, gay bar), maybe there is a store (as in storage, not the yank for shop), of prepping gear within a few hundred meters (yards) that you hadn't concidered.

We are Preppers, Just because we are Without our Kit, doesn't mean we should be Unprepared.
I get what you're saying in your last statement TorNicho, but I'm not sure how you think I'm meant to implement this. Are you suggesting that should (heaven forbid) some kind of SHTF event happen, that I should be looting places? Because I'm sure that if something like that happened, I wouldn't be the first person to have that idea. I'm a fairly small (and a bit weedy) woman and I sure as hell won't be putting myself up against potentially much larger people (man OR woman) in a situation where emotions would be running high. I would rather just get the hell out. To take Monday night as an example, if something had happened, I'd have been more concerned about coordinating getting my group (5 women in total) out of central London and to an area of relative safety. Luckily that would need something that I carry with me all the time - the knowledge of how to get out of town via back streets and avoiding most main roads. Also it's quite hard to have a safe store in London. In most places you'd be lucky if it just got nicked - anything remotely suspicious is more likely to be blown up in a controlled explosion!

In terms of prep this week, I have today off so once I have crawled out of my pit (ahem) I shall be looking for new sturdy work shoes because my current pair have a split sole and are making me feel like Neil from the Young Ones - they're letting in water. Also I need a new winter coat. I keep putting it off which is daft.

Put together a simple spreadsheet to calculate current values for old (and new) silver coins. Had a hunt around the back of some drawers and found a few old coins (1844-1900) and worked out they are worth about £80 in scrap alone :P

I just mean that you may want to take note of your surrounding resources if you find yourself lacking.
Much like being able to survive in the jungle with just a knife, and using the surrounding resources to build shelter, protect yourself (from the elements) and catch food.
Think of it as an Urban Jungle.

Just built a cold frame. Got loads of marine ply lying around, so I "morphed" some into a useful structure. This will extend my range. Very early spuds and very late salads.

Failed in my 'sturdy work shoes and winter coat' mission, but did find some winter hiking boots in TK Maxx for £30 yesterday. In the children's section  I have stupid small child feet. All other shoes are either extortionately expensive or hideously impractical. I'll keep looking. At least I have a replacement for my last walking boots and they make a much warmer substitute for a pair of wellies.

As i'm new to this and as my prepping doen't actally begin until the new year i have been scouring the house for hiding places to stash stuff. I am not even telling my wife. Going to be a ninja prepper for as long as i can before being found out.
One place i have found that i have not seen anyone mention (sorry if you have and i missed it) is under the kitchen cupboards if you have a fitted kitchen. I will be ale to fit over a hundred and fifty cans under mine and I do not have a massive kitchen by any means.I will just put some cardboard down first. I think the temperature will be quite cool and stable under there. I would suggest making a list of things before you stash them.
My baseboards have a screw at either end but if yours doesnt the chances are that they are just held on by plastic brackets that clip around the cupboard legs out of sight. They should just pull off.
Don't blame me if you break your kithen though!!!
The search continues..........

I couldn't buy any prepping items last week, so i am looking forward to getting paid tomorrow as i can get a couple of items. My main priority this week is candles, tea light candles and medium pillar candles and matches. I might buy a two torches aswell if i have the money.
