Dual survival
It doesn't cover everything but watch dual survival if you want to learn some basic stuff. They get random stuff each time and it is rather interesting. Say if you like it

Re: Dual survival
It also shows some basic neccessary stuff such as when collecting water from a river and how to minimise the risk of getting diseases.

Re: Dual survival
However, these programmes are heavily edited and therefore shouldn't be taken as gospel. Get something like the SAS survival guide, practise skills at home and you'll be ready if you ever need to use them.
You could even go on a survival course. Expensive, yes, but a useful skill gathering time.

Re: Dual survival
The stuff you watch on TV should be nothing more than thought provoking, at first. As preppingsu just said, heavily edited whilst those guys know, to a degree, what they are doing. Lighting a fire as simply as using a fire steel takes practice - try it.
I've said elsewhere tonight, prepping is more than just buying equipment and storing food etc.
TV has its place but you won't learn from it. You can get ideas and practise though.

Re: Re: Dual survival
Just watching it now.
I've seen worse, I like the way they are explaining things and why they are doing it (like the signal arrow for instance)
As has been said, nothing more than thought provoking and basic survival.
Quite good for those starting out, to get ideas from, but nothing is better than trying it out in the safety of your back garden, or local woods.
Not quite as flammable as expected, and I wasn't exactly prepared in my garage with kindling.

Strangely enough, I tried a different angle tonight, tumble drier fluff.Reservior wrote:Lighting a fire as simply as using a fire steel takes practice - try it.

Two is one, one is none.
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
