Hello from the South East

Post by Raisin »

Started storing tinned/dried food a few months ago when I realised (takes me a while sometimes) that things appear to be on the down-slide. Searched Google for ideas of what might be needed for a ‘bug out bag’ should the worst come to the worst and have been reading this forum almost daily ever since I came across it a little over a week ago.

I'm so pleased you've allowed new members again, thank you :) I've found some ideas extremely useful as I'm sure others have too. I hope I’ll be able to offer some input/help somewhere although at the moment I'm unsure what.

I hadn't realised how many others in UK are doing the same until I came here. It’s comforting knowing that I'm not alone. I no longer feel as if I'm in the twilight zone :D

Hello Raisin,

How are you? i am new here too. There is alot of ideas of a bug out kit. The question is are you going by car, foot or bike as your bug out can change when you answer which transport you are using. I think they say have 72 hours bug out is ideal but if you are bugging out on foot having your rucksack full of cans is going to way you down in the long run. The only thing you can do is have either caches hidden in secret locations on your journey to your bug in location or invest in some MRE's or freeze dried pouches meals. I know they are pretty expensive but they do save on space and weight so they will give you more room for other important items for your survival.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. :)
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Hello Survival Chick,

I'm fine thank you, more so now that I'm able to chat with like-minded people :) Nice to meet another new person. Thank you for the tips.

I haven’t really got my head around the ‘how’ – I had only thought about storing food/water in the case of a disaster and being holed up for a few months. Then I started reading some things that put the fear of God in me! People being rounded up, tracked via mobiles and car’s GPS...stuff made of nightmares. I'm not quite sure if any of it is true or scaremongering but it certainly made me think about travelling on foot if the worst case scenario happened.

Cans/dried foods are for indoors :) I like your idea about the freeze dried pouches (what’s MRE’s?) but if they are too expensive then perhaps pack small items that give energy, at least enough to get from A to B.
