After reading many posts about the benefits of thermal clothing, both in day to day use to reduce heating needs, and in order to keep warm in a more survival oriented situation - what are folks recommendations on thermal under clothing. I have zero experience in this and want to buy the right things.
Brands? Styles? Thicknesses? Links to your preferred products would be ideal
Mods - this thread probably needs removing. Seems this has been covered well previously. Couldn't find any threads a few minutes ago. Then found 2 or 3 at once. Gah!
On a proffesional note i would go for icebreaker gear it comes in different thicknesses and is so comfy to wear even after 12hrs slogging up a mountain. The downside is that its VERY expensive.
Depends what you want and how much you want to spend. I have bought some cheap stuff from amazon. However I'm looking out for done mohair underclothes which I believe are good.
I got my thermal longjons and long sleeved vests from ebay last year and thanks to having one cold after another this autumn i have been wearing them every day for weeks now and still keeping the heating comparatively low. i personally am of the opinion that an accurate digital thermometer is a good way of working out how warm the air really is so that you can make an informed judgement as to whether you need the heating on or just another layer and not just judge based on how you feel.

Brands do not matter. It is about layering. Thin layers. Me? Long johns under combats. Decent pair of socks, couple of thin t shirts ,synthetic next to skin, under shirt with micro fleece on top. Woolly hat.
That'll keep ya warm!

I never wear synthetic next to the skin, a potential for burn and melt hazard is low. But is still around. Talking to Doctors and Nurses who deal with burns, and who have seen the scars and the plastic surgery needed. Say always wear natural fibers, with slik being the best followed by bamboo then cotton. As a first layer, then synthetic after that.
Synthetic tends to "wick" sweat away. Cotton can actually cause hypothermia as it just gets wet. And stays wet. I would not stresstoo much about becoming a Human Inferno.
