Entrprenaurial Preppers?

Post by Theoracle »

Good evening,

My brother is in the Army and based in Germany for a few years, he has come to me with an idea that he has stumbled across whilst posted over there, being in the army, he cannot get involved. He has met a man who runs a survival food manufacturing business. They have loads of products ranging from 1 day survival boxes to 30 day family kits and everything in between.

I have been in touch with them, ordered a few samples (adding to my food stash nicely!) and they are prepared to open me a wholesale account as they do not yet have a UK importer. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who fancied a project? I'm looking to set up a website and already have a few kits on Ebay, maybe looking at trade shows or survival/outdoor orientated events etc

Could come to something, could come to nothing, just a thought,

Cheers

Details about the kits (with pictures and prices) would help people make their minds up. Also links to the stuff on the bay of evil would be good.

Hi white wolf,

No problem, short URL to one of the kits : http://bit.ly/SPHaXC

You can then view the other items I'm selling. I dislike bay too to be honest, well actually, I hate PayPal but they have you by the short and curled on that one!

Cheers

Just out of interest have you tried living on one of these kits for the specified time? I would be interested to know how good they are, taste wise etc (although I am not in the market to buy one).
I wish you well in your venture. Maybe we'll see you on Dragons Den one day!

Hi preppingsu,

Thanks for your kind words, to be honest, if I could give them away at less than cost I would, I think every prepper on here deserves one for all the great ideas and information they share. But alas until madam lotto pays me a visit, it's got to be business!

I have not yet lived strictly by a kit, but I will do very soon, a 7 day one on order is my test subject, the kits contain among other things, mountain house freeze dried packs and I've had them before and actually highly rate them in taste, I shall feedback on my seven day trial and be totally honest on whether 7 days means 7 days in the world of a ravenous rugby player!

Hi Theoracle

This packs look very similar to what you can get at conserva.de (also a German supplier). I've tried them apart from the meat products (I'm vegetarian) and the freeze dried stuff (which is too expensive for what it does imo).
I was thinking about starting a preping shop as well but I'm currently too busy with my current one. I have lots of ideas but not enough time to implement them. It's not as easy as you first think.

if your going to use the ebay price as a guideline,

for me freeze dried branded products like that are too expensive to consider

2x 15 day packs for a months supply per person
5 people in my family

£1750 for a month supply giving approx 1500 cals per day, in an emergency situation i would be wanting around 2000 cals per person

in true dragons den style im out, its too rich for me, but good luck, there arnt many kit suppliers in the uk

Good luck with this venture Theoracle. Conserva.de do a veggie 30 day box - a little low on calories. I'd be interested in a veggie one you could come up with.

£175.00 seems like a heck of a lot to spend on only 15 days worth of food...it averages out (based on three meals per day) at £3.88 per meal. I think that's quite expensive, especially as two of the meals per day are cold. And is there postage to pay also?

I would echo what others have said, in that it's a bit light on the calories. 2K per day is really the minumum I would be looking for in a kit such as this.

Hi everyone,

Cheers for your feedback, like I say this is something I've happened across and am really just looking into it and testing the water.

You say £175 is alot but that is with free postage, these boxes aren't light I'll be quick to add! I have spoken to them regarding making up my own kits, they are more than happy for me to do this, so in time, we'll see, I shall certainly bear the 2k cal feedback in mind when approaching this. Also there seems to be a lack of veggie options, hobo, I'll address this for you in any kits I put together.

Further to the £175 comment, of course, as a fixed price listing, e-bay stings you for £20 of that alone! I am in the process of setting up a quick e-com site to overcome this.

It's all a work in progress, so watch this space,

Cheers for your comments,
