Use the current example in America as a good basis to plan your bags. You know a storm is coming, your house/town is going to be hit so you are going to leave before problems start and head for a cheap hotel in a safe area. What will you need for a few days? You have use of your car.
Or due to financial constraints or locality you need to go to the local emergency shelter. What will you need to make your time there comfortable?
