EDC/BOB sleeping bags?

Hi again,

so i'm searching for talk on sleeping bags and the search system says its too common a word or something, so is there a thread on this or can we start one?

I'm just thinking, we are a family of 5, so i need the smallest most efficient sleeping bags i can find to keep down on weight and space, i could not carry the ones i use in the caravan as its all i could carry!!!

Although i did look at these as when open like a quilt they are aprox the same size as a poncho liner and a 1/8 of the price?

Depends on which season you require and how cold/hot you sleep.

Each SB manuafacturer uses their own guide, but on the whole the extreme rating is based on a 20 yr something fit female in base layers and the comfort a 40+ fat bloke from Leicestershire.


If you are needing them for a BO, then I would suggest getting the best you can afford - you can never underestimate a good nights kip.

I have:

Army Jungle bag for summer
Softie 9 for autumn/spring
Army Arctic bag for winter

With these three and a good Bivvi bag I am set.

yeah get your point, i'm always thinking that you would be sleeping mostly fully clothed, although i sleep very hot and probly wouldnt, the kids would. We are big fans in my house of fleece oneseys, not me but everyone else has them, my kids cant keep a quilt on them through the night so they do not get cold with one of these on and i think they would be in the BOB, i suppose something like this would be the best idea, tried and tested...

Yep, I have a large version, I'm 5' 8" and dont reach the bottom.:

make sure you get the stuff sack. It's good for other items.

I just stuff the SB into my Bergen to transport it and at home it is left out flat under the bed to keep it's loft.

I'm 6'5" and have never had an issue, the trick is not buying no name cheap bags, go with Snugpak, there last you years and a good nights sleep is worth the money. I have two of their bags, one for winter and one for summer and use them with a hammock. Hammock camping with a good bag (to deal with the wind) is some of the best sleep someone can have.
