Reservior covered it so well, great post!

Just want to add, in the interests of completeness, the various flavours which get called biodiesel. It's brst to check exactly what you're getting...

WVO - waste vegetable oil. Usually comes straight from the chip shop with the lumps filtered our. Will work but contains a lot more muck and moisture.

SVO - straight veg oil. Unused but also unprocessrd, bit better than waste but works. only a tiny bit cheaper than regular diesel.

Biodiesel - Properly filtered, dried and processed oil. Can be made from wvo or avo. Commercially more likely to be svo and home made almost certainly wvo. Pretty good and prices vary.

B100 - the standard against which the product is measured. If its b100 you oniw its properly processed biodiesel. That doesn't mean non b100 is bad only thats it not been certificated.

Hope this is accurate and helpful. Feel free to correct me though as I'm no expert!

You've got to get the water out of it as well, i have a book on making bio diesel and i can't remember the title  . It's a american book and very good at covering all the aspects of bio diesel. As its used there's all sorts of things you need to do to it.

as said you have to remove the water heating it to above 100 degrees should boil the water out,
when you say you have filtered all the lumps out... what level of filtration have you used?

if you filter wvo through a 1 micron filer , i got mine from a guy on ebay , filter bag man , all you need to do is let it stand . you will see the water settle out to the bottom . if you use a clear container you just need to stab the bottle just above the water line to get usable oil . ive never heated mine at all just left it in the sun or in the house . i currently have around 180ltrs on stand by and another 60 that needs filtering . by spring when i start filtering again i should have about 200ltrs of dirty oil to do .

yep, as mentioned you will need to filter it properly, 5 micron would work but as mentioned 1 micron is best ( thats actually finer filtered than the fuel you get from pumps apparently)

you could let the water evaporate in the sun as mentioned but im not expecting any soon, lol plus you run the risk of the animal fats in it turning rancid

settling works too but takes a fair bit of time

i just found the heating method works well for me and i used to wait till it was warm enough to touch and then filter it as it was runnier

once you have it filtered you need to find what your landy will run on, assuming you have no preheater system i would start with 50/50 and treat is as a fuel extender especially if you intend to use it over winter.
the colder it gets the thicker the oil will be and harder for your injectors to handle, as you get to know your landy you can try increasing the mix and i would expect running it in summer it should be fine upto 75-80%
but im sure someone who has more experiance with landys will know more

i run mine at 50/50 in summer and 80/20 in winter .
warming oil before filtering it isn`t the best way , some of the animal fats will desolve and go through the filter , these can be seen as a marble effect .
