Hi from London

Post by spanglecat »

I'm 31 and have just started doing an Environmental Studies degree. I'm gaining a great deal of insight into the various problems we have with regards to food production and so on so have realised it's more important than ever to lay down some preparations in case tshtf :) I'm also fairly recently married, and as we're already beginning to think about maybe starting a family in a few years, it feels really important to start down a path of as much self-sufficiency now as possible.

I'm based in north London, where the riots started last year. Unfortunately I'm in a ground floor flat, so not very secure and no real opportunity to grow any of my own produce. I've started to acquire a few extra bits with each shop every time I'm at the supermarket and thankfully already have some basic camping supplies. I don't have a bugout route or location set yet and have kind of been struggling to figure that one out as all the routes away from where we live lead to major arterial roads, or the Thames!

I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible from the site and all you guys :)

Hello fellow Londoner! It sounds like you're not that far from me - I'm up the hill from where some of the looting during the riots took place.

Same here! To get out of London for me means crossing both the North Circular and the M25  Still working on it.

I agree with junmist: sit yourself down and work your way through many cups of tea and a packet of biscuits and learn *a lot* while you're here. Welcome! :D

Hi and welcome to the forum, a small boat on The Thames could be your bug out route, a bigger one could be a bol. Jean

Bicycles on the canal towpaths? Only thing is the two paths in the countryside are not the same as the nice gravelly hardcore ones you see in the cities. They are essentially just dirt paths so you will need an off road style bike. Also, you have to take care of brambles laying across the path which will puncture your tires. You can get a special goop at cycle shops which you can insert into the tubes that will self seal small leaks like the ones caused by brambles.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.
