Hi Joe,

Sorry to hear about your problem. A couple of thoughts, if no one has given you an answer don't hold back on asking your GP to refer you on to a specialist.

Did they confirm you are OK to drive? ( This was a big issue for me as I had a big brain haemorrhage in Feb and was not allowed to drive for a couple of months until the paperwork was all sorted).

If you see a doc try and get a witness from work who saw what happened while you were unconscious as that gives the best clue as to the cause. The big things they will want to know (apart from did you shake all over - ? epilepsy) are, were you pale and sweaty before (ie looking as if about to faint) and how fast did you recover. Slow recovery over more than 30 minutes with confusion suggests epilepsy whereas back to full alertness with no confusion in 5 minutes suggests fainting.

Take care

Oh Dear that sounds very traumatic Joe, I have fainted loads of times, although i never fainted until i reached the age of 19, but since then I have fainted numerous times but i am lucky in that i have never hurt myself in doing so and I have not done it for a good while....

I have narrowed down the causes of my fainting to a few definate causes, low blood sugar, if i have a stomach upset and the main one that gets me is any type of muscle cramp! it's a pain but all i ever got from my doctor is 'some people are just prone to fainting' but as i didn't do it until i reached 19 i think he just gave the easy answer

But I have an 8 year old daughter and unfortunately she has inherrited this streak! and pretty much every time she is poorly she will faint but she is very good with it and has learnt to recognise the signs for example we both get a very hot flush followed by nauseous feeling in quick succession and then our vision goes grey/green colour, my daughter now bless her knows when shes gonna go and no matter where she is or what shes doing she will just get down on the floor and lay on her side, it has snuck up on her a couple of times but she was able to just about get out 'mummy fainting' so i could catch her. But I found itabsolutely terrifying when she first fainted when she was only 5.

It is a horrible experience when it's a straight forward faint but to hurt yourself so badly in the process of falling must be awful, I always make sure I have an extra choccy bar tucked away in my bag just in case and electrolite sachets are also good to give you a boost for after fainting.

Hope you feel better soon.

I am not a doctor and i don't know if any of us on this website are either, so you may have to do your own research, but even a proper qualified doctor can make a mistake once in a while, so do your internet research. My instincts would be to think about sugar levels, hypoglycemia or diabetes.

Also, and for the longer term future, work out if you might have a leaky gut syndrome (including a gluten intolerence, not necessarily celiac) that could be preventing you from absorbing the nutrients needed to maintain normal health. Also look at cafiene (if you drink tea or coffee) and nicotine (if you are a smoker) intolerences. Go on temporary exclusion diets and see if that makes the condition better or worse, for instance, spend a week with no whet and see if that helps or if you get ill after having some wheat, same with dairy products and the like. See about blood tests to evaluate internal organ functioning and another series of tests (hair, sweat and blood) to look at vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Either way, you are in my prayers. Get well soon.

Remember, I am not a doctor, so don't listen to me (or anyone! the moment someone has a problem, everyone gives advice and sometimes that can be good, but often it can be bad. You are the final decision maker in your life)

Hello everyone, just to let you know that I'm back to health. I'm 99.9% sure that it was to do with my blood sugar. I've been eating more regularly and feel much better. Also at work i'm not rushing around so much. Work has realised as well that I'm rushing around and that the job is too much for one Engineer so we will be taking someone else on soon. I have 2 more heart tests at hospital, but they are just a procedural thing.
