lonely preppers!!

Post by storm.ridley »

Hi all,
Just wondering how those of us that prep but have partners who don’t manage. My partner knows I prep and is cool about it as long as I don’t talk to her about stuff shes fine, it scares her and she just doesn’t want to know, I can respect that scares me sometimes too. The thing is I don’t really have friends or family and I don’t know anyone who preps, so I have no one to talk to about stuff or even general discussions and info. I know there are sites like this and I hope to use it more but sometimes its good to chat face to face. Are there others that have this situation? Everything is done on the quiet for me and its to isolating. Any and all thoughts welcome
Stay safe.

We are all here for you to chat to. Pity about your partner not being in on it, it would be nice if she was, but there are a lot of others in the same position as you on here as well so we know how you are feeling. Also a lot of people don't want to talk about it to others, they want to stay the grey man.

It will only take one time for your preps to come in handy when something out of the ordinary happens, and then your partner will start thinking maybe its not so bad and that your preps might be there for the as and when - winter is just round the corner so that might be an opportunity for you to put your preps to the test for her.

If you feel that way then can I suggest you take a bit of time out, each day, to call in here and have a read and maybe post?

My wife isn't 100% on board but she's quite happy to let me get on with it.

Yep, my hubby takes the mick but he is quite happy to let me get on with things. I do think that he is slowly realising that my planning is out of care for us all and he sometimes puts stuff in the food store and pops a note in my stock list!!

Yes that's the spirit, I can relate to being scared and letting it get to you though, the key is to have some fun, invoke the British spirit and laugh about something, if you are prepared it is one thing, but ultimately it's our spirit which sees us through, the worst SHTF scenarios are horific there is no doubt, and whether being prepared will be enough depends on luck and determination in those cases, but ask your wife if things were to go more mildly pear shaped, if your preps made it somewhere between a minor inconvenience, and a pretty rough yet survivable patch, could she feel some comfort?
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I know I've talked about it before on here, but I just don't talk about it, to be fair it is strange, but so are a lot of hobbies, and at least I don't spend my weekends spotting trains.

As long as I have the money and it does not adversely effect our life's, I.e. having stuff everywhere, its something that's not an issue.

There are quite a few of us in Sussex and the surrounding area so meetups are doable. I've been to one so far.

I think its a question of attitude. Am I telling myself that i am preparing for a global disaster or what happens if the economy throws me back to the stone age or am i telling myself that I am just doing some just in case stuff and learning better household management and making sure that have enough cold cures in stock for when the winter comes?
If the latter happens, I may be ok, if the former happens I know that i will be better off than if I did nothing but survival and success is never assured no matter what.
I tend to tell myself that I am just learning better house hold management - but in extension.

hi metatron, do you think you would stay in sussex? im kind of tempted to go further west - less populated, there is alot of big citys and towns near to sussex and in sussex cornwall/devon might be better, providing that not to many people think the same thing. i guess its about the areas you know as well.
